At a glance

Are you a pioneering data scientist who likes to think outside‑the‑box? Would you like to drive new data science solutions to tackle financial fraud? Do you want to work with cutting‑edge technologies to catch criminals?

Your job

As a data scientist in the Grid Channel Security, you will work together with fraud experts, data scientists, machine learning engineers and data analysts to safeguard our customers from criminals, including threats such as phishing, account takeover, lost or stolen debit cards, e-commerce fraud, and more. Your role will encompass analysing diverse data sources to derive actionable insights, understanding fraud trends across various payment channels, evaluating the potential of different data fields to enhance fraud detection, recognising seasonal patterns, and creating reliable forecasts.

You will also contribute to ongoing improvements in our fraud detection capabilities through model experimentation and integration of new data elements, while collaborating with others to brainstorm how data science solutions can help us stay one step ahead of criminals.

Working environment

Grid Channel Security within Corporate Information Security Office (CISO) is responsible for the prevention and detection of payment fraud, and for shaping policy and strategy in that area. The Fraud Monitoring team, part of which you will join, is a motivated multidisciplinary group of about 25 colleagues focused on protecting customers. We work in a hybrid manner organised by agile and scrum principles, with an informal atmosphere where everyone is supportive.

Your profile

We are looking for a data scientist with strong technical and problem‑solving skills and a collaborative mindset. There should be no “lone wolves” on our team; you should care deeply about helping colleagues, mentoring, and coaching, while maintaining a learning mindset.

Required Qualifications and Technical Skills
  • A master’s degree or PhD in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Econometrics, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics).
  • At least 3 years of independent machine‑learning development experience, including exploratory data analysis, model experimentation, and collaboration with engineers for model deployment in real‑world applications.
  • Professional experience developing ML models in a big‑data environment (e.g., Spark, distributed computing frameworks).
  • Strong working knowledge of Python, SQL, and Spark.
  • Familiarity with MLOps concepts such as lineage, reproducibility, and model monitoring, and experience with tools like MLflow.
  • Understanding of the full data‑science lifecycle and ability to make trade‑off decisions around sampling, cross‑validation, model‑evaluation metrics, and feature engineering.
  • Experience working in a professional software‑development environment, including appropriate use of Git, code reviews, packaging, and orchestration of jobs.
  • Strong technical communication skills; capable of presenting data‑science work to business or highly technical stakeholders and producing technical documentation.
  • Project‑management skills with experience scoping modelling projects and working in an Agile environment.
Preferred Team Values
  • Ability to innovate and think creatively to solve complex technical puzzles.
  • Persistence and intellectual curiosity to ensure that not only is work complete, but the problem is truly solved.
  • Proactivity in solving problems; reaching out to stakeholders as necessary, asking for reviews or brainstorming sessions, and suggesting new ideas.
We are offering
  • Hybrid work environment supporting a strong work‑life balance.
  • Industry‑competitive salary based on a 36‑ or 40‑hour work week.
  • Supplementary benefit budget of 11 % to spend on pre‑tax fringe benefits.
  • Annual personal development budget of EUR 1 000.
  • Annual public transportation pass.
  • Solid pension plan.
