Overview

The Department of Political Science at the University of Amsterdam invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor ("Universitair Docent") position in Political Science. Based in the Political Economy and Transnational Governance (PETGOV) programme group, we welcome new members whose research (and teaching) is informed by and connected to ongoing global transformations. The ideal candidate brings an innovative research agenda, experience, and enthusiasm to complement our programme group’s research and to educate our students.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead a research program in Political Science with a focus on inter-state relations, diplomacy, inter-state conflict and alliances, and global security within the context of geopolitical economy, using rigorous methodological approaches.
  • Contribute to the teaching of core courses in International Relations and/or political economy.
  • Collaborate with PETGOV’s research community and contribute to the group’s broader scholarly activities, including work on non-nation-state global economic and political relations.
  • Complement PETGOV’s regional expertise, with openness to most parts of the globe, and help strengthen Global South-related expertise.
Qualifications
  • An innovative research agenda with a strong readiness to publish in leading journals and to secure external funding where applicable.
  • Experience in teaching and the ability to educate students in core courses in International Relations and political economy.
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to contribute to a collegial, interdisciplinary research environment.
