Position
Sr Manager, Engineering and Design – Capital Infrastructure Projects.
Location:
Leiden, South Holland, Netherlands.
This role leads all engineering and design activities for large and complex capital infrastructure projects in alignment with Johnson&Johnson (J&J) business objectives and Engineering & Property Services (E&PS) Project Delivery Practices.
- Facilitate the definition of project requirements with the business partner and assure the right level of detail is provided to the AE for viable solutions.
- Participate in Strategic and Tactical Project Execution Planning (PEP) sessions.
- Prepare Requests for Proposal (RFP) for Architect/Engineer (A/E) services and lead A/E interviews, selection and onboarding process.
- Lead & coordinate the development of Feasibility and Concept Package deliverables.
- Prepare and support negotiation of standard J&J contract with AE Firms for design works.
- Lead Basis of Design (BOD) and Construction Document phases of a project, ensuring designs are correctly implemented by third‑party A/E firms.
- Collaborate with external equipment and system suppliers to support project designs and improve J&J's standard design platforms.
- Track design deliverables and work with the Engineering & Design Director to lead performance of A/E firm and define corrective action plans if necessary.
- Collaborate closely with EHS, project controls, and construction during the design process and assure application of Design to Value and Constructability Reviews.
- Coordinate/lead key design reviews with SMEs and assure incorporation of J&J design standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Review A/E progress, identify action plans, implement Earned Value tracking on larger projects, and lead resolution of key design conflicts in construction and commissioning phases.
- Support final close‑out with the A/E firm, including the Lessons Learned process.
- Develop personal yearly regional goals and objectives that support the overall J&J E&PS goals and complete short‑ and long‑term tactical engineering plans and programs based on strategic departmental plans.
- Build networks and maintain extensive contacts.
Education: University/bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical) or closely related technical degree required;
Master’s degree preferred.
Experience and Skills –
Required:
- Eight (8) years of related work experience on large capital facility projects.
- Proficiency in project/design management, including agreement on project definition and priorities, and ensuring resources, capabilities and processes are in place to deliver the design efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to develop appropriate metrics for design firm performance and set up plans to provide continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated history of collaboration across functional areas to establish effective working relationships.
- Expertise delivering facility designs for complex projects/programs on schedule and budget working with project teams.
Experience and Skills – Preferred:
- Prior experience working in a lead role at an A/E Design Firm.
- Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
- Flawless Project Execution (FPX) & J&J IDEA Training.
Other Requirements: Travel up to 25% required.

Base pay range: €82,900.00 – €.
