Process Engineer

Overview
Ketjen Corporation, a provider of advanced catalyst solutions to leading producers in the petrochemical, refining, and specialty chemicals industries, is hiring a Process Engineer located in Amsterdam. The role involves process engineering aspects of pre‑projects (Front‑End engineering), project implementation (detailed engineering), and commissioning & start‑up for change and expansion projects across all production facilities on site.

Responsibilities

Process design:
Conduct process studies and basic process engineering tasks during pre‑projects.

Perform detailed process engineering tasks during project implementation.

Develop and execute CSU plans during the project execution phase, transitioning the project to operation.

Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide guidance and advice to peers.

Act as Opportunity Manager for small projects to initiate and develop project scope through the Define Phase, leading the project through early development stages (Evaluate and Select) and owning business delivery aspects.

Lead a small project team in the pre‑project phase, ensuring quality, planning, and timely delivery.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of experience in engineering.

Degree in an applicable engineering or science discipline, preferably Chemical Engineering.

Specialized knowledge in process design, including mass and heat balance calculations, PFDs and PIDs development, PHA/EHA, PSV design, and CSU.

Strong communication skills: attentive listener, clear and direct communicator with solid arguments.

Excellent written English skills (Dutch preferred) for preparing reports and project findings.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree and at least 5 years of engineering experience.

Degree in Chemical Engineering.

Managerial skills: experience managing employees from a non‑hierarchical position.

Proven experience leading a project team during the front‑end engineering phase.

Knowledge of research methods, techniques, and guidelines in quality, safety, and the environment.

Agility to create alternate plans and achieve targets in a dynamic environment.

Results‑driven, outcome‑focused, action‑oriented approach with a collaborative operating style.

Self‑steering and proactive in shared risk‑taking.

Data‑based decision making, problem solving, prioritization, and risk‑based management skills.
