Job Description & How to Apply Below
Lead Electrical Engineer (MCF/Data Centres)
As Lead Electrical Engineer, you are responsible for the design and engineering of complex electrical infrastructures for data centres. You work on advanced power systems ranging from 5V DC up to 150 kV substations, including distribution networks, energy storage, redundancy concepts and UPS systems. In brownfield projects, you operate in live data centre environments where risk management, assessments and testing and commissioning are integral to safeguarding continuity and reliability.
Responsibilities
Designing and delivering electrical systems for data centres, from LV distribution to HV substations including redundancy and UPS architectures;
Defining design scope and preparing technical specifications, reports and tender documentation;
Managing and coordinating electrical work packages across multiple projects;
Supporting risk assessments, cost reviews and technical tender evaluations;
Representing Haskoning during FAT, SAT and site testing and commissioning activities.
Beyond project delivery, you contribute to improving internal processes and strengthening technical expertise within your team and across our wider MEP Community, where we actively share insights, innovations and examples of our own projects, including during our annual MEP Knowledge Day.
Where you will work
At Haskoning, you will join an independent, employee-owned international consultancy that combines engineering, design, and consultancy services with software and technology. Our mission, Enhancing Society Together, drives us to create a positive impact on the world. We offer purpose-driven and challenging work in diverse international projects, leveraging our 140+ years of expertise. With over 6,800 employees in more than 25 countries, we work together to turn challenges into opportunities and make a real impact on society.
We collaborate with leading clients in markets such as infrastructure, climate resilience, renewable energy, decarbonisation of industry, and sustainable mobility. As our new Lead Electrical Engineer (MCF/ Data Centres) you will become part of our Global Mission Critical Facilities (MCF) team. Our global MCF team provides multidisciplinary consultancy services to data centre clients, including colocation data centres, internet service providers, and telecom companies.
The team is diverse, with expertise in areas like electrical and mechanical engineering, construction, architecture, fire safety, control engineering, and security technology. Together, this knowledge is used to develop integrated designs for Data Centres. You will be part of a dedicated, passionate team that is globally recognized as one of the best in Data Centre design and engineering. The role will be based in our Nijmegen office.
As our team is located throughout the EU, travel between offices may be required to meet project demands. The role may also require occasional travel to client offices or project sites both in the EU and overseas.
What you bring
You combine technical authority with a strong sense of ownership. You are decisive in complex engineering environments, understand the operational drivers of mission critical clients and translate requirements into robust, reliable technical solutions. Within multidisciplinary teams you communicate clearly and effectively, both internally and towards clients, and you approach challenges with a structured, solution driven mindset.
Qualifications
A Bachelor or Master degree in Electrical Engineering, providing the theoretical foundation required for complex system design and critical infrastructure projects;
At least 10 years of relevant experience in electrical design within data centres or other mission critical environments, ensuring you can independently lead and validate high impact engineering decisions;
Proven knowledge of standard practices within the design and construction industry, necessary to align engineering output with regulatory, contractual and execution frameworks;
A strong understanding of clients’ operational environments, enabling you to design solutions that support continuity, reliability and long term performance;
