Job Description & How to Apply Below
Does your heart beat faster when working on AI-based perception, world modelling and vehicle control technologies? Do you want to contribute to the development of safer, smarter and increasingly automated mobility systems?

As a Research Engineer Vehicle Control, you will work on innovative technologies for automated driving, focusing on environmental perception, multi-sensor fusion, state estimation and world modelling. You will combine applied research with hands‑on engineering and translate innovative concepts into robust solutions that can be demonstrated and validated in real‑world vehicles.

What will be your job like as Research Engineer Vehicle Control?
As a Research Engineer Vehicle Control, you will be part of a multidisciplinary R&D team working on technologies that enable vehicles to understand their environment and make safe and reliable decisions.

Your work focuses on AI-based environmental perception and world modelling for vehicle and surrounding environment states, including both estimation and prediction. You will develop new concepts that bridge the gap between scientific innovation and practical automotive applications.

You will design, implement and evaluate advanced algorithms for applications such as multi-sensor fusion, localization, road modelling, drivable space detection, feature map matching and scan registration. You will take these solutions from proof‑of‑concept towards robust and efficient real‑time prototypes.

Testing and validation are an important part of your role. You will plan, execute and analyze experiments using simulation environments as well as real vehicles. This includes vehicle instrumentation, data collection, processing and on‑vehicle validation.

In addition, you will contribute to defining functional requirements and safe‑by‑design frameworks for important automated driving functions, such as localization, road and environment modelling, object detection and tracking.

You will work with technologies and tools such as Python, MATLAB, ROS and C++ and collaborate closely with researchers, engineers and external partners.

Your research outcomes will be shared through technical reports, presentations, workshops and potentially conference or journal publications. At the same time, you will work closely with colleagues to translate your research into practical solutions for customer projects.

What you bring?
You have a strong interest in automated driving, AI-based perception and vehicle technology and enjoy combining research with hands‑on engineering. You are analytical and curious, but also practical: you want to see your algorithms working in a real‑world environment.

To be successful in this role, you bring:

A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Automotive Engineering or a comparable technical discipline, preferably with a focus on AI-based environmental perception, robotics or world modelling.

Experience with in the robotics, autonomous systems or automotive research domain.

Knowledge of AI-based environmental perception, world modelling and/or state estimation.

Experience with multi-sensor fusion methodologies and preferably state estimation and advanced filtering techniques.

Programming experience with C++ and/or Python.

Experience with MATLAB and ROS is highly appreciated.

The ability to translate algorithms and research concepts into robust and efficient implementations.

An interest in safe‑by‑design principles and systems engineering for automated or autonomous systems.

Writing and presentation skills in Dutch and English.

Who are we?
Technology means progress. Continuously finding ways to do things differently, to improve products, services, and processes. That is what makes the heart of every technology organization and tech professional beat faster. In the projects they are working on, but also for themselves. That means something different for each individual. For one person, it means being guided to their dream project; for the other, it means developing their skills.

Making that possible, that is the human touch. And that is what makes our heart beat faster.
