Job Description:

Airbus Netherlands B.V. is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Design & Analysis Engineering Team based in Leiden, The Netherlands.

Airbus Netherlands makes a vital contribution to the international Space industry in the current operational areas of Solar Arrays, Launcher Structures, and Laser Satellite Communication. In these areas we belong to the world top and seek to achieve the same level with future products and services. Airbus Netherlands designs and builds structures for European launchers serving the commercial and institutional satellite markets.

These structures must be lightweight but still capable of carrying the heavy and complex set of applied loads. The combination of our long heritage and continually expanding expertise have equipped us with the capability to meet the ever-developing demands in this field.

You will be part of the team that supports the mechanical analysis and verification of our complex structures for the Ariane 6 launcher. Based on Finite Element modeling, the full set of technical requirements of our customer must be satisfied. This is conducted in close collaboration with the Lead and Systems Engineers, our Thermal Engineering team, the Design Office, the Material & Process department, our Assembly & Integration Team as well, of course, fellow mechanical engineers.

Meet the team:

Our Engineers have the privilege of working on complex products at the forefront of aerospace technology. We welcome those who are interested in joining our team effort to shape the present and future of Airbus Netherlands products.

Your challenges:

Understand and design lightweight metallic structures, subjected to complex mechanical loading.

Finite element modeling and analysis of Airbus Netherlands B.V. Space products, in particular lightweight structures of the Ariane 6 launcher. This shall be performed with FEMAP and NASTRAN.Model and analyze the performance of structural components and assemblies which are optimized in terms of mass, cost and production / assembly requirements while highest safety of the Product is assured using appropriate Design tools.

Define, perform and report tests to qualify structures, subcomponents or processes.

Liaise with the Design Office, manufacturing engineers and Assembly, Testing and Integration team, and other appropriate Airbus departments to come up with optimum design solutions.

Participate and/or provide technical support during Design Reviews.

Select materials and processes appropriate to each design element, in close collaboration with our Materials & Processes Engineering Team.

Ensure that final design can bear mechanical stresses and satisfies the required stiffness and fracture control requirements.

Accept broad objectives with agreed deadlines, but establish the tasks required and how they should be completed.

Effective reporting of the engineering work in technical documents that satisfy the needs of the configuration control, design reviews, the treatment of NCR’s during production, enquiries from the customers and act as an efficient spring-board for future developments.
