We are a young ambitious hardware startup revolutionising non-destructive testing (NDT) using advanced eddy current technologies. Our mission is to make testing of carbon fibre composites fast and simple, enabling industries such as aerospace, energy, med tech, and others to further adopt these high-performance materials and achieve their sustainability goals while saving cost.

We are based at Amsterdam Science Park, surrounded by research institutes, universities and technology companies.

We are looking for an experimental physicist to join our engineering team. You will be instrumental in developing and delivering commercially ready non-destructive testing solutions for carbon fibre composites, spanning hardware, electronics and software. You will play a key role in the development of sensing and signal processing that takes our technology to the next level.

As an ideal candidate, you are early in your technical career and eager to show what you can do in a fast-moving R&D environment. You are known for your technical depth, attention to detail, commitment to quality, and your ability to find solutions to hard problems. You will report to our Head of Engineering, a sensing expert (PhD) who will work closely with you on the technology.

• Designing and running experiments on customer samples and test specimens, carefully and precisely, with a clear question in mind.
• Making sense of the resulting data: analysing scans and working out what the physics is telling you.
• Reading the literature for approaches worth trying, and bringing them back to the team.
• Translating what you learn into new sensor hardware and measurement configurations.
• Characterising performance and comparing technical approaches on the evidence.
• Writing Python to control instruments, automate measurements and process data.
• Sharing results in engineering team meetings, and helping our working student and intern find their feet.

• A PhD in experimental physics or a closely related field, completed recently or up to around two years ago. Strong MSc candidates with equivalent hands-on research experience are very welcome to apply.
• Real fluency in the lab. You have built your own measurement setups and you are at home with oscilloscopes, impedance analysers, and lock-in amplifiers.
• A background in measurement science and signal acquisition. Electromagnetic measurement experience is welcome, though we do not expect any particular speciality.
• Enough Python to be useful from the start, and a real interest to become good lingness matters more to us here than existing depth.
• The instinct to chase an anomaly until you understand it, and the discipline to run the control experiment before believing the result.
• Clear communication. With the team now, and with customers looking at your data before long.

• Signal processing and feature extraction
• Electromagnetic modelling or simulation of physical systems, whether analytical or finite element
• A maker streak: soldering, 3D design and printing, simple machining
• Exposure to composite materials, testing or manufacturing
