By offering transparent fees, a wide range of assets and an easy to use platform, Bitvavo is making the currency of the future accessible for everyone.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Trade Surveillance Officer to strengthen our second line defence against market abuse across our MiCAR/MiFID II regulated trading activities. You will own our trade surveillance program end to end, from conducting the market abuse risk assessment and designing detection coverage, to investigating suspicious orders and transactions and deciding on regulatory filings.

This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who can operate independently, translate regulatory complexity into practical controls, and act as the internal go to expert for trade surveillance

What You'll Be Doing

Own the market abuse risk assessment, review and maintain it across products, venues, client types, trading strategies and market structure

Own and continuously improve the trade surveillance framework, covering insider dealing, unlawful disclosure, and market manipulation under the Market Abuse Regulation (MAR) and MiFID II/MiFIR and MiCAR

Assess and extend surveillance coverage against new products, services, trading venues and market structure changes, mapping each scenario back to the risk assessment

Manage the quality and completeness of order, trade, reference and communications data feeding the surveillance system

Monitor feed latency and alert generation latency, and define acceptable time-to-detect and time-to-review thresholds by risk Triage alerts, assess and investigate suspicious orders and transactions, document findings, and decide on and file Suspicious Transaction and Order Reports (STORs) with the relevant competent authority without delay

Drive significant, cross functional projects (e.g. surveillance system tuning, transaction reporting quality reviews, insider list process redesign) with a high degree of autonomy and accountability

Own maintenance of the trade surveillance policy, insider list, personal account dealing controls, alert logic, and management information that improves both compliance outcomes and team efficiency

Partner with Trading, Legal, Risk, and Product to deliver strategic compliance outcomes, including new product reviews, market structure changes, and regulatory change projects

What We're Looking For

Hands-on experience running, tuning and calibrating trade surveillance systems, and leading market abuse investigations from alert to closure, including STOR decision-making

6+ years of relevant compliance/surveillance/regulatory experience, with a strong focus on market abuse in a MiFID II or MICAR regulated company

Comfortable working directly with order book, trade and communications data, ideally with SQL or Python, to build a clear, defensible narrative

Deep, practical knowledge of MAR, MiFID II/MiFIR, and related technical standards (e.g. RTS 22 transaction reporting, insider list requirements). Some knowledge of MiCAR is desirable

Comfortable engaging directly with regulators and senior stakeholders, including under time pressure

Excellent written communication skills: able to produce investigation reports and management information that are clear, well-evidenced, and decision-ready

At Bitvavo, we believe that diverse perspectives drive innovation, foster creativity, and lead to better outcomes. We are committed to building a…
