Research Scientist, Clinical Research
We are seeking a dedicated Research Technician to become a member of our PHEniX Lab. In this role, you will drive our induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) cultures and molecular workflows, helping us in our research goal to understand the mechanisms of right heart adaptation to pressure overload.
The Pulmonary Hypertension eXperimental (PHEniX) Lab is a translational research lab dedicated to understanding the complexities of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH). We bridge the gap between basic science and clinical application, focusing on the mechanisms of vascular remodeling and right heart failure.
As our new Research Technician, you will join the Right Heart Failure group. You’ll work alongside a multidisciplinary team of postdocs, PhD candidates, and another technician. We also collaborate closely with clinicians and pulmonary/cardiology physicians to ensure that our research findings are translated into future clinical applications.
In this role, you will use advanced techniques to make important contributions to our research:
- Advanced Cell Models: You will lead our iPSC workflows, differentiating cells into cardiomyocytes, fibroblasts, macrophages, and endothelial cells in both 2D and complex 3D cultures.
- Human Connection: You will work directly with primary tissue samples (blood, atrial, epicardial, and pericardial tissue) derived from patients with right heart failure.
- Next-Gen Omics: You will use cutting‑edge techniques like spatial proteomics, transcriptomics, and RNA sequencing to gain a comprehensive molecular understanding of right heart failure.
- Education: A relevant HLO (HBO) or University (WO) degree in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biology, or a related field.
- Cell Culture Expertise: Strong hands‑on experience with mammalian cell culture and sterile techniques. Experience with induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), including maintenance, reprogramming, or differentiation, is a significant advantage.
- Molecular Biology
Skills:
Familiarity with standard molecular techniques (e.g., DNA/RNA isolation, qPCR, Western Blotting) as a foundation for advanced omic analyses. - Advanced Models: Experience with 3D culture systems (organoids/spheroids) or handling primary human tissue samples is a plus.
- Language: Strong command of English (spoken and written) to collaborate effectively within our international team.
- A flying start to your career in scientific research.
- Plenty of room for your drive to shape tomorrow's healthcare.
- Working on large‑scale and in‑house research, with motivated colleagues from all over the world.
- You will be employed by Amsterdam UMC Research BV.
- A contract for 12 months.
- Salary scale 7M: €3,064 to €4,340 gross based on full‑time employment (depending on education and experience) and a year‑end bonus of 8.3%.
- Holiday hours: 190.4 per year for full‑time and a possibility to save additional hours.
- Pension accrual with BeFrank, a modern, comprehensible and fairly priced pension.
- For >7 km each way, 100% reimbursement for public transport travel costs and, for private transport, €0.18 per km up to a maximum of 40 km each way.
- Do you prefer walking or cycling? Take advantage of our good bike scheme. Moreover, you will receive a reimbursement of €0.18 per km.
