We are looking for a talented and ambitious individual to participate in the research group of Prof. Dr. VP Retèl. In our group, we are working on a broad scala of projects regarding (very) early Health Technology Assessment (HTA) of innovative technologies in precision oncology. The projects are research-based as well as policy/clinic-based, due to the nature of the NKI-AVL, which is a research institute and hospital in one.
Our group includes 10 PhD students, 3 postdocs and 1 research assistant.
For the hospital, the program manager-part is expected to have a coordinating role in the development of a real-time data & research pipeline for projects concerning the Center of Early Detection (AVL Centrum voor Vroegdiagnostiek: Kanker vroeg ontdekken). This data pipeline will function as a framework for continuous HTA analyses throughout the patient trajectory, from early detection until palliative care, for both research purposes as well as policy decision making purposes.
Besides, other projects are possible, such as preparing HTA dossiers for technologies developed at the NKI for submission to the national HTA-body (Zorginstituut).
For the research institute, the senior research-part will have a role in the HTA research facility, collaborating with the other postdocs. Consultations from the clinic as well as the research institute will be coordinated, such as preparing grant proposals (incorporating HTA), supporting and performing HTA analyses. Analysis can entail a broad scala of HTA/health economics research; mostly (early) cost-effectiveness analyses, but also budget impact analyses, Quality-of-life analysis, patient preference research, resource use analysis etc.
We work on continuous HTA-models alongside the real-world data-infrastructure from the data lakehouse, including combining clinical, PROMs and financial data. Furthermore, a supervisory role is possible for PhD and master students, to support them in their research.
We are looking for an individual who sees this as a career challenge, and is interested in discussing the design and results of broader HTA projects with physicians and other healthcare professionals in the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital. This close collaboration between research and clinical practice supports new innovations to be implemented most optimally and as fast as possible into the clinic.
We are curious to hear from you the opportunities you see in this environment, with a preference for data science expertise (or affinity to learn), seen the topics described.
Supervisors for projects are Prof. Dr. Valesca Retèl and Prof. Dr. Wim van Harten, in collaboration with the various project specific principal investigators such as fundamental researchers and clinicians at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital. We have many interesting research lines in e.g. RWD, pricing & transparency, personalized medicine, cell therapy, immunotherapy, cancer rehabilitation, de-escalation etc.
Inspiring international atmosphere
Approximately 550 people work in the NKI research laboratory and many of the clinicians are involved in research. Work discussions, lectures and seminars are inspiring and a large number of non-Dutch post-docs, students and staff members contribute to the stimulating and international atmosphere of the Institute.
