Responsibilities
Build and manage a high‑performing engineering team in Europe, maintaining a team size of up to six direct reports, ensuring hands‑on involvement in coding while not being on the critical path.
Coach engineers to take ownership of large, loosely‑defined projects, guiding them through planning, scope, and execution.
Provide feedback on product and technical specs to help engineers reduce scope or improve quality; influence decisions without being the final decision maker.
Jump into the codebase to debug customer issues, ship small bug fixes, or improve developer experience.
Improve data generation and simulation in demo accounts, balancing business impact with codebase familiarity.
Mentor engineers to enable them to deliver projects end‑to‑end, listening to users, writing specs, and building UX.
Qualifications- Passionate about both management and technical work; enjoys deep technical conversations with direct reports across infra, backend, and frontend.
- Experience driving people to their best, giving difficult feedback, and building systems that make management easier.
- Strong communicator, able to facilitate change at individual and organizational levels.
- Deep understanding of what makes an exceptional engineer, and experience recruiting and growing them.
- Comfort with high‑trust, high‑autonomy environments; able to lead without imposing many processes.
- Emphatic about empowering teams to make product and technical decisions without constant oversight.
- Skilled at balancing product, business, and design considerations while staying focused on engineering excellence.
- Someone who does not enjoy coding or cannot keep up with technology.
- Someone who came into management solely as a career progression with no genuine interest in people.
- Someone who wants to dictate product decisions instead of enabling teams to decide.
- Someone who prefers low‑level management or project‑management heavy roles.
- Someone who is unconvinced the company can build an engineering culture outside the status quo and is willing to enforce standard processes like sprint planning.
- Competitive salary and equity with a 10‑year exercise window for stock options.
- Unlimited PTO, with a recommendation of four weeks per year.
- Generous equipment, software, and office furniture budget.
- $100 per month education budget, with manager approval covering larger items such as conferences.
