Medior Data Platform Engineer

At Xomnia, data platforms are recognized as the foundational architecture for the AI revolution. As a Medior Data Platform Engineer, you will build the infrastructure that allows organizations like KLM, Enexis, and Rabobank to turn complex data into decisive actions. This role serves as a critical bridge between raw data and impactful decision‑making, requiring a balance of deep technical knowledge and an understanding of the business logic that drives data value.

Build the systems that transform AI ambition into reality

Joining Xomnia means stepping into a community of over 20 nationalities united by a shared passion for harnessing data and AI to tackle immediate and future challenges. Xomnia way is defined by a culture of open sharing, where curiosity is celebrated and the courage to challenge the status quo is encouraged.

The trajectory for a Medior engineer at Xomnia is one of deliberate growth. While initially focused on building and improving systems, you will gradually assume greater ownership of architectural decisions and technical trade‑offs. This progression is supported by a platform that encourages mentorship from senior architects and provides the freedom to experiment with new technologies during dedicated internal time.

What the journey looks like in practice

During your week, your time will be divided between our cozy Amsterdam HQ, home‑office environments, and strategic visits to clients.

Our Raamstraat office, with its uneven floors and canal‑side beanbags, serves as the heart of the team's collaborative efforts, especially during Xomnia Fridays when the team gathers to design together and resolve technical blockers over some good coffee.

Some examples of the type of data engineering projects we’ve worked on in the past, can be found here, at a.s.r, here, a project for DAF, and here, at Albert Heijn.

What you bring to the table

You thrive in collaborative environments and possess the desire to turn complexity into clarity. Beyond technical skill, we are seeking individuals who combine strategic thinking and immediate value, and are comfortable navigating the ambiguity inherent in high‑stakes data projects.

What’s expected of you:

  • Approximately 3+ years of experience in data‑intensive or backend systems, with a proven track record of building reliable, production‑ready solutions.
  • Confidence in Python and SQL, with a commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and well‑documented code.
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and a solid understanding of data modeling for analytics and reporting.
  • A collaborative and proactive mindset, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical peers and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Fluency in both English and Dutch, enabling effective partnership with a diverse range of local and international clients.
  • Experience in Infrastructure as Code (IaaC), Containerisation, or advanced Cloud knowledge is a great plus.
  • Current eligibility to work in the Netherlands.

Please note that for this position, we are looking for candidates who have the legal right to work in the Netherlands.

What’s in it for you?

We offer more than a job - we offer a platform for growth:

  • A monthly salary between €4.300 - €5.400 per month (based on 40 hours and excluding vacation allowance)
  • €5.000 annual development budget
  • 25 vacation days to fully recharge
  • Secondary benefits such as pension, flexible working options (in terms working location) and the possibility to take unpaid leave
  • Memorable company trips (from Berlin to Jordan and ski trips)
  • The opportunity to grow along with our success through Stock Appreciation Rights

We believe that collaboration, knowledge sharing, and personal development are the keys to our success. That’s why we offer various trainings through our ‘Learning Labs’ and organize a yearly health month. We also regularly enjoy boat trips through the Amsterdam canals with our own boat, and there is always a healthy (free) lunch and a bar at the office.
