PRIMARY
PURPOSE:
Duties and responsibilities as presented are intended to be representative and not restrictive. The District reserves the right to modify the assignment and allocation of duties in accordance with operational needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Examples of essential functions are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature.
This course is a continuation of Beginning Musical Theatre Techniques with emphasis on the applications of stylistic techniques for musical theatre ranging from the 1960s to present day. Individual exercises in acting, movement and voice as related to contemporary musical theatre are explored. An audition or interview is required for the purpose of assigning solos and group performance roles. Instructor must be available starting February 2, 2026.
Courses include Beginning Musical Theatre 2 MW 8:30-11:00am and/or Applied Voice, which is an arranged hours course based on you and your students’ availability. Future classes may include Beginning Movement Techniques for Musical Theatre and Beginning/Intermediate Musical Theatre.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The award of all degrees must be verifiable on a legible transcript. If degree award date is not posted on transcript your application will be deemed incomplete and removed from consideration. All degrees and coursework used to satisfy the required minimum qualifications must be submitted and from accredited postsecondary institutions.

MASTER’S or Master of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance OR Bachelor’s or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance AND Masters in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, literature or humanities OR Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area. OR The equivalent as determined by the District Equivalency Committee. Commitment to diversity.
All applicants must have demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse backgrounds and demonstrate equity-minded practices in the classroom.
Extensive knowledge of musical theatre repertoire, strong professional development as a director within the industry. Knowledge of current trends in the professional industry. Teaching experience in one or more instructional areas. Understanding of stylistic and technical nuances across eras of musical theatre; experience with diverse vocal styles and multi-genre works. Directly related professional performance experience is desirable. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Expertise in culturally responsive teaching in theater arts with a focus on equity and inclusion. LMS experience (Canvas). Experience collaborating with faculty, staff, and community leaders to support historically underrepresented students. Commitment to equity and access in the arts.
