Position SummaryThe Designer II supports the organization by contributing to basic design projects, prototype creation, sales activities and general design room needs. This individual may work with internal and external parties to create designs. The Designer II must be highly creative, possess strong verbal and written skills, and acute attention to detail. This role requires proficient knowledge of both 2D and 3D software and strong communication skills, with the ability to multitask and work on a team.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Work in a fast‑paced environment creating medical device packaging systems for sterile devices.
- Proficient at creating structures or art with detailed dimensioning and geometry.
- Work directly with customers to review, revise if necessary and gain approval.
- Develop and produce samples, photos, slides and videos.
- Track and inventory customer medical devices.
- Maintain design room machines (UV printer, 3D printer, cam table) daily and weekly.
- Clean and housekeeping of design work areas.
- Request materials from warehouse.
- Facilitate shipping/receiving items for the design room.
- Take basic to mid‑level complexity design projects from start to end.
- Onboard new hires on basics as needed.
- Focus primarily on design, not tooling or equipment support.
- Engage in sales support activities such as sample making, graphics, etc. when required.
- Attend design and project meetings, take notes and ensure deliverables are documented and met.
- Support the Oliver sales team and customers with proper design and drawing creation.
- Assist with marketing display samples such as Clean Cut cards, printed lids and pouches, shelf cartons, and shippers.
- Assist QA with complaint investigations by providing electronic design files.
- Follow design rules and standards to ensure manufacturable and quality designs.
- Work with QA/SRD to review incoming customer specs and ensure correct tolerances are listed.
- Collaborate with Process Engineering for projects that may fall outside typical production standards and tolerances.
- Work with Oliver purchasing to ensure needed R&D materials are stocked.
- Support supplier CAPA activities.
- Ensure hazardous materials in design room are properly labeled and handled safely.
- Associate’s Degree or certification in a design-related field preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience.
- Knowledge of packaging design and testing performance preferred.
- Background in art or artistic creation.
- Experience with 2D and 3D software.
- Read, analyze and interpret technical customer communications.
- Write clearly and concisely.
- Speak effectively, present information and respond to questions clearly.
- Work collaboratively with team members.
- Apply principles of mathematics and units of measure (Metric and Imperial).
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Solid Works, Adobe Illustrator.
- Problem‑solving using comprehensive and creative thinking.
- Accurate interpretation of provided information.
- Regular attendance, punctuality.
- Read and understand documents and drawings.
- Work cooperatively with others.
- Deal politely and professionally with customers and coworkers.
- Perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Follow directions and instructions.
- Use computer to communicate, create, and access information.
- Lift up to 25 pounds.
- Sit, stand and walk as required.
- See and identify colors clearly.
This position operates mainly in a professional office environment and uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. Production equipment for sample manufacturing is also used.
Special Requirements- Travel (U.S. and international) ~5%.
- Work evenings.
- Work weekends.
