WHAT YOU'LL DO:

The Electrical Designer I is responsible for creating design models and other documents to show equipment and device layouts and branch circulation for power, lighting, and auxiliary drawings. This position receives direction from the BIM Manager for graphic standards and layout. This position requires continuous dotted‑line supervision by a Designer III, an Engineer, the Engineer of Record, the Engineering Team Lead, or the Director of Engineering.

  • Fill in panel board schedules with branch circuit lighting and power plans under supervision.
  • Perform wire sizing, transformer feeders, and protection from published schedules.
  • Calculate lighting levels and layout fixtures at the direction of the Sr. Designer or Engineer for spaces of high finish, specific application, or aesthetic sensitivity.
  • Coordinate signal and low voltage subcontractors and designers with other trades, disciplines, and designs with supervision and assistance.
  • Back‑check your work for accuracy and completeness before passing on to others.
  • Limited field work and surveying skills.
  • Perform additional assignments per the supervisor’s direction and training plan.
  • Become familiar with manufacturer submittals for electrical characteristics.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
  • An eagerness to learn and develop skill in designing models and other documents to show equipment and device layouts and branch circulation for power, lighting, and auxiliary drawings.
  • Team‑oriented with good interpersonal skills and the ability to coordinate with others.
  • Experience researching documents and work archives.
  • Capable of taking lighting and power markups and updating/creating all associated drawings in concert with other trades with accuracy in a manner appropriate for the project.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Teams, Chat, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and a passion to learn Autodesk Revit and Illuminance software.
  • Work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements positively.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • General work environment – sitting for long periods, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work is conducted primarily indoors with varying environmental conditions, such as fluorescent lighting and air conditioning.
  • Noise level is usually low to medium.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs.
