The Anaheim Police Department is currently accepting applications for a Senior Police Services Representative. Under minimal supervision, this position performs highly complex and responsible paraprofessional duties in a non-sworn capacity in support of the Police Department operations and services. The current opening is in our Field Operations division.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsThis is the advanced journey-level classification in the Police Services Representative series. Incumbents perform the more complex duties requiring highly specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities in a designated work assignment such as ABC Licenses, Vice Investigations, Field Operations, Missing Persons, Victim Advocate, and Undercover Staff Support and its responsibility for supervising cadets working at the front counter of the Police Department main station and at other stations on an assigned shift.
Incumbents are expected to exercise considerable independent judgment and discretion in the presentation of their specialized assignment areas.
- On an assigned shift, supervises Police Cadets engaged in front counter activities at main police station and other stations; schedules, delegates, and ensures completion of assigned tasks.
- Review and approve police reports written by Cadets and submitted by the public on-line.
- Review, input, maintain and submit weekly payroll for front counter staff.
- Oversee and conduct all cadet front counter training; evaluate cadets' performance.
- Respond to complex and sensitive issues that occur at the front counter and on the telephone.
- Interview crime victims to determine if a crime has occurred in Anaheim's jurisdiction and the type of criminal activity; prepare reports and determine appropriate disposition.
- Receive initial complaints regarding front counter staff and assist in determining the appropriate course of action.
- Consult with the District Attorney/City Attorney or Code Enforcement regarding crime prevention methods and appear in court to give testimony as required.
- Research and analyze data, verify and update information on computer and in the hard copy record; prepare statistical reports.
- Receive money for report and vehicle release fees; balance sales and receipts at end of day.
- Receive, list, and release personal and/or evidential property, at a police station, in compliance with established departmental policy, practices and procedures.
- Fingerprint members of the public after processing applications and receiving payment. May fingerprint minors during community events.
- Receive written materials from businesses and residents, and forwards the information to the appropriate detail within the department or organization.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Compile crime and alcohol statistics for conditional use permits.
- Receive ABC applications; compile crime and over concentration statistics; conduct home and business safety inspections of premises requesting license; advises applicant of ABC responsibilities.
- Inspect all alcohol licensed locations for violations of ABC licenses or conditional use permits; take photographs as necessary.
- Prepare violation letters and answers questions regarding violations.
- Prepare administrative reports relating to public safety; provides input to the Planning Commission on approval or denial of businesses requesting conditional use permits.
- Process permits for dancers, massage establishments, dinner dances, amusement devices, carnivals and solicitors.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Investigate a variety of crime and traffic collisions/incidents; interview parties, witnesses and victims; prepare written reports documenting investigations.
- Maintain records, logs, files and books evidence in accordance with proper property evidence procedures.
- Conduct traffic control at scene of accidents or other functions as required; impounds vehicles as necessary at collision scenes; arranges for vehicle tow as required.
- Issue parking citations, may mark and store abandoned vehicles.
- Testify in court as required; maintains proper courtroom demeanor and etiquette while testifying in court.

- Investigate assigned cases as required; support sworn officers in investigations of missing persons with Anaheim Police Department and with other State or local law enforcement agencies.
- Follow up on missing-persons reports and maintain contact with the reporting family.
- Compile and generate reports using various public safety data systems; ensure missing person's database is maintained and up-to-date.
