Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Weinig Moulder Operator and Knife Grinder to join our production team. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience setting up, operating, and maintaining Weinig moulders (or similar multi‑head moulders), understands custom milling workflows, and takes pride in producing accurate, defect‑free material. This role requires strong technical skill, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and productivity.
Key Responsibilities- Set up and operate Weinig (or comparable) moulders to produce S4S, custom profiles, and specialty runs.
- Read and interpret work orders, drawings, and customer specs.
- Select, grind, and properly install knives and cutting heads.
- Set feed speeds, cutting depths, spindle positions, and pressure systems for optimal finish and throughput.
- Inspect lumber for quality before and after milling, making necessary adjustments to maintain tolerances.
- Perform routine machine maintenance, lubrication, alignment checks, and minor repairs.
- Follow all Highland Lumber safety rules, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and equipment guarding requirements.
- Work collaboratively with mill leadership to meet production goals and maintain workflow efficiency.
- Keep accurate production records and communicate material issues or machine concerns promptly.
- 25+ years of experience operating and setting up Weinig moulders or similar industrial moulders.
- Strong knowledge of knives, cutter heads, profiles, and tooling.
- Ability to measure accurately with calipers, micrometers, and other precision tools.
- Understanding of lumber grades, species, moisture content, and machining characteristics.
- Commitment to safe work practices and adherence to company policies.
- Experience with Weinig Power Com, Rondamat grinders, or profile knife grinding.
- Background in custom millwork production or industrial wood manufacturing.
- Ability to operate additional machinery (rip saw, planer, jointer, resaw, etc.).
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to wood dust, noise, and industrial environments.
- Use of PPE and compliance with all safety guidelines required.
