Job Overview

You will start in the Layup team, creating composite and adhesive panels, and then possibly progress on to the mechanical testlab. You will hand lay prepreg and adhesive materials, operate ply cutting machines and autoclaves, and may support the testing group, generating data in accordance with ASTM and other materials testing standards. In the test lab, you would perform mechanical testing on specimens using Zwick or MTS test frames.

This is a world-class lab that values meticulous teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and improve Syensqo’s product evaluation efficiency and accuracy by providing testing and evaluation support to internal and external customers.
  • Accurately cut and measure raw materials (prepregs, adhesives, substrates) and perform hand layup of composite materials, including carbon, aramid, and glass fiber composites, honeycomb sandwich, and adhesives.
  • Conduct metal and substrate surface preparation (chemical etching, anodizing, priming) as required for test panel fabrication.
  • Execute mechanical testing of materials using Zwick or MTS test frames, ensuring timely completion in line with key performance indicators.
  • Assure all data and inspection plans are accurate and properly recorded into our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Maintain accurate records and manage project documentation to an externally auditable standard.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, engineers, scientists, and lab supervisors to support all functions and ensure customer‑specific needs are met.
  • Participate in LEAN improvements and FOD (Foreign Object Debris) reduction activities.
  • Perform ‘clean as you go’ housekeeping practices to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
Safety Responsibilities
  • Be an active contributor to Syensqo's Safety Goals and Culture (take action on any unsafe act, condition, or behavior, participate in safety teams and events).
  • Demonstrate a commitment to good safety practices. Pay specific attention to the safety requirements for the operation of the Materials & Testing Laboratory, and in accordance with Syensqo and Government regulations.
Education & Experience
  • At least a high school diploma or preferably an associate’s degree in a STEM related discipline, or 3-5 years in a machining/manufacturing environment.
  • Must possess the ability to read English and comprehend technical writing as can be found in customer specifications and other relevant documentation.
  • Must have good math skills and be proficient at operating computers including the use of Google® or Microsoft® applications.
  • Basic understanding of composite products, the composite industry including resin families, fibers, test methods, and statistics.
Preferred Skills
  • Strong knowledge of composite materials, including a range of matrix and reinforcement technologies.
  • Hands‑on experience with composite panel fabrication, vacuum bagging, autoclave curing, and machining.
  • Experience operating universal test machines (MTS, Instron, Zwick, etc.) and using data acquisition software (Test Suite, Blue Hill, Test Xpert, etc.).
  • Good understanding of database management, laboratory processes, and testing procedures.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an industrial or laboratory setting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).
  • Excellent listening, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, team members, and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to establish effective working relationships across all levels of the organization.
