The City of Anaheim Public Works Department seeks an experienced Vehicle Technician III to support the Operations & Maintenance Division by performing advanced journey‑level work in the maintenance and repair of gasoline, diesel, alternative‑fuel vehicles, motorcycles, fire apparatus, and other motorized equipment.
About the DivisionFleet Services provides quality and competitive maintenance services to our customers in a timely, environmentally friendly manner. The 40‑member team operates out of a 47,000‑square‑foot, 30‑bay repair facility. The annual operating budget is approximately $17 million, and Fleet Services is responsible for purchasing and maintaining all vehicles and equipment used by the City of Anaheim.
Additional Compensation Upon Completion of Probationary Period- Manufacturer certification pay for Master Automobile or Heavy‑Duty Truck Technician, up to $4,000 annually.
- Fire mechanic certification pay: $250 Level I, $500 Level II, $750 Level III.
- Welding certification pay: $200 for a valid Certified Welder certificate.
- Annual Safety Boot Allowance: $300.
- Class “A” driver license certification pay: $300 once each fiscal year.
- Probationary period: 12 months; only regular full‑time employees eligible for certification pay.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical malfunctions on vehicles, motorcycles, and equipment using diagnostic equipment and technical manuals.
- Perform emissions control system repairs, engine and transmission diagnostics, and hydraulic or air braking system maintenance.
- Lubricate, change oil, and replace filters on all vehicle and equipment types, performing “A”, “B”, “C”, and “D” level services as defined by Fleet & Facility Services.
- Mount, balance, replace tires, and perform wheel and braking system maintenance, including ABS diagnostics.
- Conduct safety inspections, including California Highway Patrol “BIT” inspections, and perform daily safety checks on all vehicles.
- Maintain shop equipment and work area, dispose of hazardous materials safely, and perform emergency repairs out of shop as required.
- Record all maintenance, repairs, and time worked accurately in the computerized fleet management system.
- Mentor and provide guidance to Vehicle Technician I and II incumbents.
- Provide on‑site support for field operations as needed, including installation of add‑on equipment and emergency warning systems.
Must possess a valid Class “C” California Driver’s License and provide own basic mechanic hand tools.
Required Licenses/Certificates within 12 Months of EmploymentTanker and/or Hazmat endorsements highly desirable.
