• A high school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment in a GED program.
• Must meet paraprofessional requirements for the state of Alaska through one of the following methods: 48 college semester credits from a regionally accredited institution, or a passing score of 459 or greater on the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment exam, or passing the Work Keys by ACT assessment, or passing the ASD provided Master Teacher paraprofessional training.
• Basic skills in reading, writing, and math.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and inspire confidence and cooperation among staff, parents, students, and the public.
• Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with staff, parents, students, and administrators.
• Knowledge of first aid (preferred).
• One year experience working in general education, special education, agency, or private school settings (preferred).
• Experience working directly with young children and students with disabilities (preferred).
• Basic experience with office equipment and computer literacy skills, including word processing, printing, and email (preferred).
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as IEPs, behavior plans, and lesson plans (preferred).
• Ability to remain calm and maintain professionalism during conflicts and make effective decisions under pressure (preferred).
• Ability to share essential information appropriately with team members (preferred).
• Training in instructional strategies and techniques, with ability to implement them correctly (preferred).
• Ability to follow directions and complete tasks independently (preferred).
• Experience working with young children ages 3-5 and students with disabilities, depending on classroom assignment (preferred).
• A valid Alaska driver’s license, ASD required vehicle insurance, and willingness to use personal vehicle for work (preferred).

• Provide instructional services in reading, math, writing, etc., to students individually or in small groups under the supervision of a special education teacher.
• Prepare or modify instructional materials as specified by the teacher.
• Collect data in accordance with IEP goals and objectives.
• Collaborate with colleagues and staff.
• Follow instructions and implement teacher-directed programming and strategies.
• Implement and support services as detailed in the IEP, including accommodations, behavioral interventions, and assistance with daily activities.
• Work primarily in special education or regular education classrooms, with possible support in other settings as needed.
• Support diversity, promote respect, and maintain confidentiality.
• Assist in health and safety standards, including toileting and changing in preschool classrooms.
• Provide support during outside recess, lunch, and bus transportation as specified in the IEP.
• Possibly work in community-based settings as part of CARE teams.

Requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Ability to lift items less than 40 lbs., understand instructions, recall facts, handle conflicts, and manage stress effectively.

Performed in a professional setting with diverse individuals. May be exposed to outdoor weather and moderate noise levels.
