Overview

Surgical Services Educator role at Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC). Under general supervision of the Director of Education and assigned to the specific Unit Director, the educator will assist in managing the clinical staff education program at ANMC; develop and present classroom training to improve staff effectiveness in health service delivery skills, competencies, and best practices.

Responsibilities
  • Assesses training needs; designs, develops, implements, evaluates and revises clinical education programs; consults with staff to define needs and suggest solutions.
  • Delivers training for clinical staff utilizing appropriate training methods, adult learning concepts and facilitation skills; ensures training programs are results-oriented and provide value to the organization.
  • Reviews changes in clinical technology, procedures, program services and policy-mandated courses; develops revised training content to meet new objectives; updates training content and schedule.
  • Researches, analyzes and evaluates new training materials; develops, improves and updates course content and instructional methods.
  • Prepares and coordinates the development of training programs and materials; administers, scores tests; maintains records on students to support credentialing and accreditation; maintains comprehensive database and documentation for clinical staff attendance at mandated training programs.
  • Counsels students and provides special help as needed; participates in committee and program development to coordinate training methods and techniques; tracks training costs and informational trends.
  • Participates in continuing education as necessary to meet changing program needs and to maintain professional skills.
  • Robotics:
    Provides guidance, support, and constructive feedback to the robotics team, including technical support and troubleshooting of system malfunctions; participates in interviews for perioperative robotics program personnel selection; leads or collaborates with the Surgical Services Director and the educator on perioperative personnel education and competency in robotic procedures; assists the team during new or specialized procedures; evaluates perioperative robotics personnel performance;

    identifies expected patient and program outcomes for robotic surgery services, including instrument usage and cost analysis; maintains awareness of maintenance and replacement details in robotic contracts; monitors construction projects related to robotic surgery; coordinates, facilitates, and manages change within the robotic surgical service area; ensures necessary personnel, equipment and supplies are available for robotic procedures (scheduling, preference cards, surgeon credentialing);

    may cover OR Technician and OR RN positions during call-outs or staffing shortages; may involve non-traditional hours due to facility needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications


  • Minimum Education

    Qualification:

    A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Progressively responsible professional work-related experience, education, or training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.
  • Minimum Experience

    Qualification:

    Non-supervisory – Five (5) years of registered nurse experience in area of specialty which demonstrates leadership skills and ability to work within a team environment, effective communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, data analysis and research interpretation skills, and computer/word processing skills.
  • Minimum Certification

    Qualification:

    Must be licensed as a RN by the State of Alaska and remain active with all annual licensing requirements. Current Basic Life Support card. Current ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, etc card as required for specific work area.
