Position: Aircraft Maintenance Inspector (A&P/IA PCN 122167)

The recruitment is exempt from the hiring freeze (Administrative Order 358).

Eligible to obtain a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Inspector Authorization (IA) Certificate.

What You Will Be Doing

This position oversees the maintenance of agency aircraft and requires expertise in aircraft engines, parts, and systems, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance. Responsibilities include managing third‑party maintenance contracts and ensuring compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, departmental standards, and cooperative agency requirements.

Duties involve scheduling, coordinating, and inspecting maintenance projects, monitoring costs and contractor performance, and conducting routine aircraft maintenance as needed. Under general direction, this position inspects, certifies, directs, and assists in the repair, maintenance, and overhaul of various aircraft, from light single‑engine piston aircraft and helicopters to single‑engine turbine aircraft and helicopters.

The Working Conditions You Can Expect

This position is located and based out of our Anchorage‑based Aircraft Section at Lake Hood. This position requires occasional travel to our Fairbanks hangar to monitor maintenance in the interior. Travel may include several overnight stays a few times each month.

The work environment is friendly, team‑oriented, and productive. You will share an office in an office environment that includes other professionals. The successful applicant must be able to work with frequent interruptions, be self‑motivated, and be able to work well with others to be successful in this position.

The work schedule is 5 days on and 2 days off. This position does not offer housing nor does it offer someone living outside of Anchorage paid travel to and from the worksite.

- This position will travel throughout Alaska providing aircraft and training support.

What We Are Looking For
  • Acts as a Quality Assurance Evaluator with knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools of quality assurance and quality control used to ensure a product fulfills functional requirements and standards for aircraft and avionics maintenance contracts, ensuring work schedules and proper priority of projects. Serves as a technical specialist in the development and evaluation of maintenance contract specifications, modifications and pre‑award reviews.
  • The Aircraft Maintenance Inspector must have knowledge of aircraft engines, parts, and systems, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance to include experience working on both fixed‑wing and rotary‑wing aircraft. The ideal candidate will possess experience with piston and turbine engines (preferred PT6 and Saffran helicopter). It is the inspector’s responsibility to ensure the aircraft’s timely completion and airworthiness to the maximum extent possible with multiple vendors.
