Base Pay Range$79,900 – $160,000 per year.
Your ImpactAs a Structural Engineer in our Northwest‑based Ports and Maritime Group, you’ll collaborate with a global, multi‑disciplinary team on waterfront and transportation projects worldwide. You’ll lead and mentor staff engineers, design and analyze structures ranging from local marinas to large‑scale international port developments, and manage projects through the full lifecycle from concept to finished PS&E sets. You’ll handle both rehabilitation and retrofit projects, as well as new marine structures and facilities.
You will work on piers, wharves, transfer bridges, gangways, bulkheads, breakwaters, floating docks, and marinas made from steel, aluminum, concrete, earth, and timber. Your responsibilities will include performing calculations in accordance with ASCE, AASHTO, ACI, AISC, IBC, NDS, and PIANC using finite element modelling programs, interfacing with clients and sub‑consultants, giving presentations, preparing technical proposals, and assisting with material take‑offs, cost estimates, and construction schedules.
Your work will support projects across Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Hawaii, and remote South Pacific locations.
- Lead the design and analysis of marine structures such as piers, wharves, docks, and seawalls.
- Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
- Develop innovative solutions for complex engineering challenges.
- Prepare comprehensive PS&E packages for public and private clients.
- Conduct site inspections and assessments to evaluate existing marine structures.
- Lead the preparation of project proposals, material take‑offs, and engineer’s cost estimates.
- A minimum of four years of experience in structural engineering.
- Professional Engineer license (or the ability to obtain one within one year) is required; licensure in AK, WA, OR, or HI preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or related engineering.
- In‑depth knowledge of structural analysis and design principles.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and small projects independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and PDF software (Bluebeam, Adobe, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of relevant codes and standards (AASHTO, ASCE, AISC, ACI, IBC, NDS, PIANC).
- Expertise in finite element analysis software (SAP
2000, RISA‑3D, STAAD, LPile). - Seismic design knowledge including familiarity with second‑order analysis.
- Experience preparing project specifications.
- Experience drafting details and assembling plan set packages in AutoCAD.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
- Master’s degree in Civil, Structural, or related engineering.
- Knowledge of port marine and landside infrastructure operations.
- Field work and construction experience.
- Experience designing, estimating, rehabilitating, or supervising construction of marine structures and facilities.
- Experience working with port authorities and transport agencies.
