Reporting to the Project Director, the Dams Project Manager will oversee the design, construction, and maintenance of Donlin Gold’s major water retention and dam structures supporting mine development. This position plays a key leadership role in advancing Donlin Gold’s commitment to engineering excellence, environmental stewardship, and safety performance across all phases of the project. The successful candidate will demonstrate deep technical expertise in dam design and construction, exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, and a proven ability to deliver results in Alaska’s challenging and remote Yukon–Kuskokwim (Y–K) region.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the planning, engineering, and execution of Donlin Gold’s dam and water management infrastructure in alignment with company objectives and permitting requirements under the Alaska Dam Safety Program.
- Develop and implement comprehensive project management plans, including schedules, budgets, resource forecasts, and risk management strategies for design, construction, and maintenance phases.
- Coordinate closely with EPCM contractors, design engineers, permitting specialists, construction teams, and Donlin Gold management to ensure alignment and accountability across all project interfaces.
- Oversee the design and construction of multiple Class I dams, ensuring compliance with Donlin Gold’s standards, Alaska Dam Safety Coordinator’s Office (ADSC) requirements, and recognized engineering best practices.
- Conduct technical reviews, risk assessments, and constructability evaluations to proactively identify and mitigate structural, environmental, or operational risks.
- Ensure compliance with Donlin Gold’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards, permitting commitments, and sustainability objectives.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to Donlin Gold and contractor teams, promoting a culture of safety, respect, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain regular coordination with regulatory agencies, Alaska Native corporation partners (Calista Corporation and The Kuskokwim Corporation), and community stakeholders to promote transparent communication and positive working relationships.
- Monitor project progress and performance metrics, prepare executive-level reports, and recommend corrective actions where required.
- Support integration of dam safety monitoring systems, instrumentation, and operational readiness planning.
- Represent Donlin Gold at technical meetings, permitting workshops, and community forums as assigned.
- Travel to the Yukon–Kuskokwim region and the Donlin Gold project site as required.
- Communicate with vendors to resolve discrepancies and maintain professional relationships.
- Assist with other accounting tasks as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mining, or Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum 15 years of progressive experience managing large‑scale dam, tailings, or water‑retention projects, preferably within mining or heavy civil infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience managing EPCM contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong technical understanding of dam design, construction methodologies, and performance monitoring systems in cold‑climate and remote logistics environments.
- Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6) and strong cost, schedule, and risk control discipline.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations including ADSC, ADNR, EPA, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers standards.
- Professional Engineering license (P.E. or P.Eng.) and PMP certification preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, integrity, and environmental responsibility, consistent with Donlin Gold’s core values.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Occasional fieldwork at remote project locations.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
This position is based in the Anchorage office, and the selected candidate must be willing to travel to visit the Yukon‑Kuskokwim region and Donlin Gold project site.
