CIVIL ENGINEER III - Range 17 / NON

Pay: Starting pay does not exceed the midpoint of the displayed pay range.
Job DescriptionUnder the general direction of the Capital Program Manager, the successful candidate will supervise, plan, prioritize, assign, review, and provide technical direction to Project Management Section staff. The role manages all design through construction phases of AWWU capital improvement projects, including construction negotiations and making recommendations on disposition of claims. This position requires a strong background in civil design and construction management and the ability to function under limited supervision and manage multiple projects and tasks.
The incumbent may also perform other duties as assigned and may be required to participate in major emergencies or disasters as outlined in AWWU’s disaster plan matrix, which can involve 12‑hour work shifts that may continue for 72 hours or more at any time, 7 days a week, 24 hours per day.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible engineering experience.
- Master’s degree in Engineering may substitute for experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
- State of Alaska Professional Engineer’s License (before or upon hire).
- State of Alaska Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record.
- Successful completion of a satisfactory background check (criminal, education, and employment history).
- Certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
Veterans who qualify under Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031(D) must attach a DD‑214, DD‑256, NGB‑22, or a letter from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs that shows an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. Current National Guard or Army Reserve members in good standing must provide a statement of service. Documentation must show the minimum qualifications of the position for consideration.
