Overview
UIC Commercial Services is seeking a Controller to oversee our accounting operations and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. The ideal candidate will lead a team of accountants along with the AP team, manage month‑end close processes, and support strategic financial planning. This position will work out of the UIC Commercial Services office in Anchorage each workday.
ResponsibilitiesEssential functions will include:
- Responsible for all aspects of general ledger accounting, including preparation, review and approval of monthly journal entries, monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, monthly accruals and reversals and fixed asset accounting.
- Responsible for monthly revenue recognition according to ASC 606.
- Responsible for maintaining lease schedules according to ASC 842.
- Assist with preparing audit schedules and financial data for annual financial statements audit.
- Monitor and enforce internal controls to ensure integrity and accuracy of financial information.
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards including GAAP and other applicable guidelines.
- Collaborate with other departments to provide financial insights and support business decisions.
- Coach and engage the accounting team to ensure they have an optimal working and growth experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
- Eight (8) plus years of accounting experience as a Controller, including four (4) plus years in a supervisory role.
- Technical, analytical focus with proactive, problem‑solving nature. Ability to research and suggest proper accounting solutions.
- High degree of computer literacy, including extensive knowledge in Microsoft office, specifically Outlook and Excel.
- Strong experience with ERP systems, preferable Sage Timberline.
- Strong leadership, communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
- The ability to work accurately and independently while managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills with the ability to multi‑task while meeting deadlines.
- Regularly required to sit for extended periods.
- Frequent use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Must be able to communicate clearly through speech and hearing.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 lbs.
- Work is typically performed in a professional office environment.
- Extended periods of computer use and screen time.
- May be required to work beyond normal business hours during peak periods (e.g., audits, budgeting, board meetings).
- Must maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive financial and corporate information.

Where driving may be required or where a rental car must be obtained for business travel purposes, applicants must have a valid driver license for this position and will be subject to verification.
