Position: FIRE INVESTIGATOR - Range 30 / F40 IAFF

Overview

The Municipality of Anchorage, Anchorage Fire Department (AFD) is seeking a Fire Investigator to conduct criminal investigation and detective duties with the Municipality of Anchorage. This position is represented by the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 1264 Union.

Hours of Work

40‑hour work week. Schedule as approved by management.

Location

4700 Elmore Rd, Anchorage, AK.

Legal Eligibility

Applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide sponsorship.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of six years of experience in fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical service, fire training, and/or law enforcement; one year at the level of Deputy Fire Marshal/Fire Captain or higher.

OR

  • Minimum of six years of experience in fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical service, fire training, and/or law enforcement; one year at the level of Senior Patrol Officer performing Investigator/Detective duties with the Municipality of Anchorage, or equivalent elsewhere.
Minimum Requirements
  • Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
  • Satisfactory drug screening at time of hire.
  • State of Alaska Fire Investigator Certification, or equivalent, within one (1) year of hire.
  • American Heart Association CPR certification within one (1) year of hire.
  • Successful completion of designated components of the Anchorage Police Academy within one (1) year of hire.
  • Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400) and CJIS background check at time of hire.
  • Ability to operate SCBA or other approved respirators, computers and associated software programs, cameras, two‑way radios, measuring devices, and other municipal vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) 300.
  • Incident Command System (ICS) 400.
