Are you looking to start a new, exciting, fulfilling career in law enforcement? The Alaska Department of Corrections is hiring multiple Correctional Officer 2 positions at the Anchorage Correctional Complex (ACC) in Anchorage.
What You Will Be DoingEmbark on a career in Corrections with numerous training and promotion paths. As a correctional officer you will play a vital role in reforming those in custody and helping them contribute positively to society.
New Correctional Officer 2s undergo 12‑14 months of structured field training and a seven‑week Correctional Officer Academy. Upon completion, you receive certification from the Alaska Police Standards Council.

- Apply self‑defense, firearms, and appropriate force; act quickly to defuse conflicts.
- Read and apply statutes, regulations, and procedures; explain them to the public and inmates.
- Maintain order and discipline, operate security control rooms, and conduct security checks.
- Support rehabilitation of prisoners; work toward an environment conducive to reintegration.
- Age 21 or older, U.S. citizen or National.
- High‑school diploma or GED; a General Educational Development certificate accepted.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license; a Commercial Driver’s License may be required for some positions.
- One year of experience as a Correctional Officer at the State level or equivalent, or successful completion of the ACA.
- Successful background investigation, psychological evaluation, drug screening, and medical examination are required before appointment.
- Full criminal history check is required; applicants with offenses listed in the policy may be ineligible.
- Compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) – applicants with convictions for sexual or domestic violence offenses are ineligible.

Salary and CompensationStarting salary may be approved up to Step D – $36.74.
