Orthopedic Physicians Alaska seeks a highly skilled, dedicated and professional Orthopedic Technician Lead to join our rapidly growing and dynamic team. In a collaborative environment and working under the guidance of physicians, the Orthopedic Technician Assistant Manager supports the Orthopedic Technician Manager in leading a multi-location team of Casting Technicians. In addition to leadership duties, the Lead will perform the typical duties of a Casting Technician, including the following: teach patients to use walking aids such as canes and crutches, fit and adjust equipment as necessary, apply and remove plaster and synthetic casts, inform patients about the risks of treatment, and, under the guidance of surgeons, fabricate splints and manage other simple medical technology, including braces and prosthetic limbs.
Knowledgeand skill requirements Knowledge:
- Knowledge of principals and techniques of casting, splinting, wound care ad asepsis techniques, procedures and protocols.
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary; this includes body mechanics and patient movement.
- Knowledge of basic surgical protocols; sterile draping, skin preparation, instrument and post-procedural would care/dressing.
- Knowledge of ordering and procuring appropriate daily inventory to accommodate daily orthopedic casting/splinting/wound care/in office procedure needs.
- Understanding of leadership and team principles.
- Skill in the area of tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions.
- Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.
- Skilled in the application of casting, splinting, orthopedic appliances, and patient positioning.
- Skill in identifying equipment issues, documentation, and notification.
- Skill in following infection control and clinical safety procedures.
- Ability to work closely with Orthopedic Technician Manager to disseminate information, plan, prioritize, and delegate tasks to casting team.
- Ability to motivate casting team.
- Ability to maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
- Ability to help manager maintain the Ortho Tech Schedule and ensure a fair and equitable work in times of critical manpower.
- Ability to apply verbal and written instructions and standardized work practices.
- Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures.
- Ability to project a pleasant and professional image.
- Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)
Preferred Experience:Leadership experience in addition to Medical Assistant or orthopedic technology certificate or related associate's degree
