Under close supervision or general direction, the candidate applies technical skills to provide a full range of sample test analyses and laboratory services.
Responsibilities- Train in and perform a full range of simple‑to‑complex sample testing and laboratory services.
- Train in and perform patient specimen testing; ensure sample suitability and evaluate, judge, and interpret test results with accuracy.
- Accept and process samples for on‑site testing or forward to reference laboratories.
- Identify and resolve inconsistencies in patient results.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and instruments; ensure quality control and functionality.
- Prepare laboratory for regulatory inspections.
- Provide customer service to patient providers regarding test processes, results, or sample collection techniques.
- Participate in continuing education programs.
- Monitor, maintain, order, and stock laboratory supplies.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field. Experience, education, or training may substitute on a year‑for‑year basis.
Minimum Experience QualificationFive (5) years of clinical laboratory experience; an equivalent combination of education and training may substitute for experience. Alternatively, two continuous years at ANMC plus a letter of intent from the Director of Laboratory Operations and completion of the MLS III Merit Program are acceptable.
Minimum Certification QualificationMedical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP) OR Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA) OR equivalent certification from a national credentialing agency.
Additional RequirementsMeet Merit Program requirements: operate analyzers, complete Quality Assurance projects, conduct validation/correlation studies, write SOPs, complete a Quality Systems Course, produce a Quality Manual SOP quiz, perform in‑service training for staff, and complete at least three approved special projects. Proficiency is demonstrated through panel discussion with management.
