A high school diploma or equivalent.

A minimum of two years of experience working with children/adolescents with developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, mental health issues, and/or intensive behavioral needs.

Must successfully complete Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) Verbal Intervention training within 30 days of hire.

Must obtain and maintain current CPR/first aid certification.

Must possess a current Alaska driver’s license.

A bachelor’s degree in a mental health field (preferred).

Two years of experience working with students with behavior issues (preferred).

Experience delivering behavioral support services to students receiving special education services, especially those with behavior issues (preferred).

Understanding of mental health issues related to students’ needs (preferred).

Experience with developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions and behavioral supports (preferred).

Experience collaborating with or delegating duties to other professionals (preferred).

Experience in data collection (preferred).

Ability to work with children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbances (preferred).

Ability to use positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) in handling emotional and behavioral crises (preferred).

Utilizes proactive and positive behavioral support strategies to prevent and reduce student problem behavior.

Acts as a supportive staff member using de-escalation strategies and interventions.

Solves problems with school staff to improve services for students.

Responds proactively to crises.

Attends all required ASD training in behavioral supports and therapeutic interventions.

Implements special education programming as specified in IEPs under supervision.

Maintains progress data for each student as per IEP requirements.

Implements interventions in Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) as per IEP.

Collects data for students with BIPs.

Provides instructional support under teacher guidance.

Establishes and maintains good working relationships with staff and related professionals.

Uses techniques to create a supportive, therapeutic learning environment.

Supports students with emotional issues and behavioral problems.

Maintains confidentiality in accordance with IDEA and FERPA.

Job Summary
The Behavior Coach assists in implementing behavioral interventions for ASD students. Reports to a building administrator. Benefits include participation in PERS.

Job Requirements
Must have:

A high school diploma or equivalent.

Two years of relevant experience.

Completion of NCI Verbal Intervention training within 30 days of hire.

Current CPR/first aid certification.

Current Alaska driver’s license.

Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s in a mental health field, additional experience with students with behavior issues, and expertise in behavioral supports and data collection.

Physical / Mental Demands
Frequent movement, visual and auditory requirements. Ability to handle conflict, make decisions under pressure, and manage stress in a diverse environment.

Work Environment
Professional setting with diverse individuals. Possible exposure to outdoor weather and moderate noise levels.
