Diabetes Educator - Providence Anchorage
The Diabetes Educator serves as a consultant of inpatient glycemia management and an educator of diabetes management and prevention to patients, families, caregivers, and providers at Providence Alaska Medical Center. The role includes support for diabetes technology such as continuous glucose monitoring and insulin pumps, comprehensive patient assessment, personalized care delivery, customized education, and the use of educational technology. The educator also leads the planning, development, and implementation of staff development programs to meet strategic training objectives for nursing and other clinical staff, and participates in continuing education.
Responsibilities- Consult on inpatient glycemia management.
- Educate patients, families, caregivers, and providers on diabetes management and prevention.
- Support use of diabetes-related technology (CGM, insulin pumps).
- Perform comprehensive patient assessment and deliver personalized care.
- Provide customized education tailored to patient age, culture, and medical history.
- Ensure appropriate educational technology and learning methodology are used.
- Lead planning, development, and implementation of staff training programs.
- Participate in related continuing education.
Position is full‑time, 1.0 FTE – 8‑hour day shifts, 40 hours per week. Pay range: $40.11 – $62.27 per hour. Additional compensation may include shift differentials, standby/on‑call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree in a health‑related field (Nutrition & Dietetics).
- Within 6 months (180 days) of hire:
Alaska Dietitian License or Alaska Nutritionist License. - Upon hire:
Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). - Upon hire:
Registered Dietitian – Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
- Master’s Degree in a health‑related field (Nutrition & Dietetics).
- Coursework or training in Health Education.
- 3 years experience providing diabetes education and collaborating in a multi‑disciplinary clinical setting.
- 3 years experience as a healthcare professional, including an inpatient setting.
