The Department of Corrections, Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services, is recruiting for a Physician Assistant/Advanced Practice Registered Nurse 1 located at the Anchorage Correctional Center (ACC) in Anchorage

What You Will Be Doing

Under the supervision of the Chief Mental Health Officer, this position will:

  • Care for the psychiatric needs of mentally ill offenders located across the state in-person and via telehealth for rural locations.
  • Actively participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team including other psychiatric medication providers, psychiatric nurses, mental health clinicians and medical staff.
  • Identify, assess, and respond appropriately to those with mental health disorders, symptoms associated with drug and alcohol use, and suicidal inmates.
  • Prescribe Schedule II‑V drugs as appropriate in accordance with departmental standards, State licensing requirements and prescriptive authority by the Alaska Board of Nursing or the Alaska Medical Board.
  • Work as part of the mental health team, including on‑call coverage requirements as part of a rotation with the other psychiatric treatment providers.

Working Environment You Can Expect

This position is primarily located at the Anchorage Correctional Complex, a secure facility for incarcerated offenders, and Anchorage Central Office in downtown Anchorage to provide services to rural locations via telehealth. This position will work closely with a team of correctional officers, mental health clinicians, medical staff, and other psychiatric treatment providers.

Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.

Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska may apply for vacancies in this job class.
