The HR Clerk reports to the Human Resources Manager and handles daily branch clerical HR tasks, assists with payroll functions, and performs other office clerical duties.
Essential Functions- Support weekly New Hire Orientation; prepare packets, schedule, and set up new employees in payroll systems.
- Execute daily payroll functions: time and attendance sweeps, employee maintenance, and check attendance lines.
- Distribute weekly commission reports and populate union pension spreadsheets.
- Maintain confidential communication with management on payroll rates, status changes, garnishments, union issues, leaves of absence, and other sensitive topics.
- Track and process vacation, sick, and other leave requests.
- Maintain personnel files and scan employee documents into an HRIS system.
- Assist employees with updating personal information.
- Organize employee appreciation activities, including birthday/anniversary programs.
- Review applicant applications for open positions and schedule interviews.
- Participate in the branch safety program and assist with monthly safety meetings.
- Assist the HR Manager with projects and cross‑department tasks.
- Serve as the first point of contact for employees and customers, providing excellent customer service on the phone and in person.
- Open mail, batch out AR checks for posting.
- Collect COD from the safe and verify balances.
- Access desktop deposits and scan daily deposits by batch.
- Answer incoming phones and assist walk‑in customers at the window.
- Perform general office functions as assigned by the Office Manager.
- Minimum 1 year of Human Resources experience.
- Minimum 2 years of general office experience.
- Proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work successfully in a team environment.
- Excellent organizational and multi‑tasking skills; detail oriented.
- Good understanding of general payroll/HR procedures and proficiency in data entry.
- High school graduation or GED equivalent.
- Some college preferred.
