RF Systems Engineer

Bering Straits Native Corporation (BSNC) – Arcticom, LLC, a company within the BSNC family, is seeking a qualified Radio Frequency (RF) Systems Engineer to support the technical operations, maintenance, and optimization for clients including agencies within the Department of Defense (DOD). The role focuses on system configuration, troubleshooting, RF optimization, and supporting functional system administration (FSA) tasks under the guidance of the operations manager and customer.

The RF Systems Engineer ensures RF networks operate efficiently, comply with cybersecurity requirements, and meet reporting needs in alignment with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Configure and maintain all components of RF system configuration to ensure reliable system performance and support of maximum efficient transmission.
  • Provide technical support for electromagnetic networks, diagnosing and resolving system issues to maintain performance.
  • Implement and maintain security controls in accordance with DOD 8570.01-M, NIST SP 800-53, and DODI 8510.01 Risk Management Framework (RMF) requirements and other DOD cybersecurity policies.
  • Support the establishment and maintenance of secure communication links and conduct reviews of contractor access.
  • Provide additional technical support during the FY surge period to meet year‑end project proposals and SOW requirements.
  • Contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other technical documentation.
  • Assist in preparing technical materials for organizational meetings and documenting outcomes as directed.
  • Ensure technical support and troubleshooting align with performance requirements, maintaining system reliability and user satisfaction.
Qualifications

Required (Minimum Necessary):

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Telecom Engineer, RF Engineer, Engineering) or equivalent experience of 8 years.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in systems engineering, preferably with exposure to DOD.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DOD‑approved Information Assurance (IA) certifications per DOD 8140 for IA technical positions.
  • Must pass the mandatory background investigation and the security awareness training and comply with DOD Personnel Security Office guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Proficiency in system configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting for enterprise applications.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills for diagnosing system issues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively under the direction of senior staff and communicate effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Preferred:

  • DOD Secret or higher clearance.
  • Prior experience with a government contractor or other government entity and an understanding of radios and IT systems.
  • Strong computer skills:
    Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project) and CAD programs.
Physical Requirements

Employees must maintain constant mental alertness. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lb. from the ground and 20 lb. overhead, bending, stooping, sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods. Most time is spent seated with frequent opportunity to move.

Dot Covered/Safety‑Sensitive Role Requirements
  • This position is not subject to federal Department of Transportation safety‑sensitive functions.
Work Environment

The job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens. Extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi‑line telephone system is required. Occasional travel may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Support Operations and Service Managers in identifying technicians with technical requirements of the job.
  • Serve as subject‑matter expert enforcing quality control for all technicians and system design.
Additional Qualifying Factors

Pre‑employment drug screening and acceptable background check results are required. Clearance levels and access to military installations may be required depending on the contract.
