The Department of Corrections, Division of Administration and Support / Information Technology, is recruiting for an Analyst/Programmer 2/3/4 position located in Anchorage, Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing

Serves as an analyst/programmer team member for the Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS). Additionally, perform analysis, design, development, documentation, testing, deployment, maintenance, and support activities required to create or modify in-house applications used in support of the department’s data processing and information technology needs.

The Division of Administrative Services / Information Technology Unit provides essential programming support to the operations of the Department in support of its mission to provide secure confinement, reformative programs, and a process of supervised community integration to enhance the safety of our communities.

This Unit provides support to Alaska's prison system and maintains ACOMS to ensure appropriate documentation and tracking of all persons placed under the department’s custody/supervision. There are more than 5,000 people under the department of corrections custody and an additional 5,000+ that are under supervision as assigned by the Alaska Court System. Maintaining the internal system is integral in the successful operations of the department.

Working Environment You Can Expect

The Anchorage Office is located in downtown Anchorage. This position will interface daily with a variety of people, institutional and probation field offices, other managers, directors, and the Commissioner's Office.

Who We Are Looking For

We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:

  • Computer

    Languages:

    Knowledge of computer languages and their applications to enable a system to perform specific functions.
  • Information Technology Architecture:
    Knowledge of architectural methodologies used in the design and development of information systems, including the physical structure of a system's internal operations and interactions with other systems.
  • Logical Systems Design:
    Knowledge of the principles and methods for designing business logic components, system processes and outputs, user interfaces, data inputs, and productivity tools (for example, computer-aided software engineering).
  • Process Control:
    Knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures used for the automated control of a process, including the design, development, and maintenance of associated software, hardware, and systems.
  • Quality Assurance:
    Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools of quality assurance and quality control used to ensure a product fulfills functional requirements and standards.
Minimum Qualifications Analyst/Programmer 2

One year of computer programming experience in a recognized computer language. One year of the experience must have been in a business application, scientific application, microcomputer or computer system user support specialty.

Substitution

A bachelor's degree with a major in Computer Science (CS) or Computer Information Systems (CIS), or a related degree with (18) semester/(24) quarter hours of CS or CIS may substitute for all of the required experience. An associate's degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems may substitute for nine months of the required experience.

Two years of computer programming experience in a recognized computer language. One year of this experience must have been in a business application, scientific application, microcomputer or computer information management support specialty.
