Legal Counsel, Lawyer
McQuillan & Hohman Law / Alaska Immigration Law Center
Proudly Serving Alaska families and businesses:
McQuillan & Hohman Law and the Alaska Immigration Law Center. We’re hiring a Bilingual Attorney who is fluent in Spanish and English to help clients navigate legal issues with clarity, compassion, and professional rigor. If you want to join a team of compassionate professionals, a fun and engaging work environment, and have huge growth potential within our firm let’s talk.
You’ll maintain an active caseload suited to your background—any practice area is welcome. Experience in probate, immigration, or civil litigation is a plus but not required. Client communication in Spanish and English is central to this role. You’ll collaborate closely with colleagues across our two branded practices and contribute to a calm, well‑run office.
What You’ll Do- Represent clients from intake through resolution: counseling, strategy, drafting, negotiation, and—where applicable—court or agency appearances.
- Communicate clearly in Spanish and English with clients, courts, agencies, and opposing counsel; provide accurate, plain‑language updates and expectations.
- Manage deadlines and workflow: hearings, filings, discovery/service, petitions/applications, and compliance with court or agency rules.
- Work with support staff to keep files organized (electronic and physical), maintain accurate notes, and ensure quality control on documents and data.
- Collaborate on case planning and cross‑train across matters to help the team cover peaks in volume.
- Contribute to billing hygiene: timely time entries, monthly review of WIP/AR, and responsiveness to client billing questions.
- If you bring a book of business, coordinate onboarding of those matters; we recognize this with clear financial incentives.
- Juris Doctor and active bar license in any U.S. state.
- Barred in Alaska or able to become barred in Alaska within six (6) months of start.
- 2+ years of post‑licensure practice experience.
- Full professional fluency in Spanish and English (speaking, reading, and writing).
- Strong drafting, organization, and follow‑through; steady judgment with confidential information.
- Comfort with Microsoft 365/Google Workspace, shared calendars, scanners/e‑fax, and practice‑management software.
- Nice to have: experience in probate, immigration, and/or civil litigation.
We expect full compliance with the Alaska Rules of Professional Conduct (and your licensing state), including conflicts checks; client confidentiality; truthful communications; competent, diligent representation; proper supervision of non‑lawyer staff; and trust‑account handling consistent with applicable rules. We do not make promises of results.
Compensation & Benefits- Salary: $75,000–$150,000 per year DOE.
- Flexible work schedule.
- Retirement: dollar‑for‑dollar match up to the federal limit.
- PTO: industry leading paid‑time‑off policy.
- Paid holidays.
- Equity Partner track.
- Bonuses: frequent performance bonuses tied to results and client service.
- Support: modern equipment, CLE budget, and training resources to help you succeed.
- Business development: financial incentives for portable/book‑of‑business matters.
- Full‑time, highly flexible work schedule including potential for 4-day work week. Occasional after‑hours needs tied to court or client deadlines.
- On‑site in Anchorage, AK; in‑person client service and team collaboration are essential to this role.
