The Momentum Fellowship is a program offered through Philanthropy Northwest to develop a pipeline of leaders of color and other underrepresented groups in philanthropy. This leadership development program works with new and current practitioners in philanthropy to develop leadership skills; explore issues of diversity, equity and inclusion in grantmaking; and engage in career development activities. This is all done while fellows work in professional positions in foundations across the Northwest.
Along with the day-to-day functions of the job, fellows participate in cohort retreats, monthly cohort calls, professional coaching and networking opportunities.
Rasmuson Foundation was created in May 1955 by Jenny Rasmuson to honor her late husband E.A. Rasmuson. The Foundation is a catalyst to promote a better life for all Alaskans.
THE JOBThe Program Momentum Fellow will provide programmatic support and actively participate in the grant making process by supporting the program team and acting as a liaison between program, other Foundation staff, applicants, grantees and other external audiences. The position will have regular contact with applicants, grantees and the broader community, and must work with these individuals with consideration, respect and caring.
The fellowship is a 24-month, temporary, full-time position located in Anchorage, AK and reports to a program officer. Ideal candidates are from communities underrepresented in philanthropy and are interested and committed to a career in philanthropy.
- Review applications and proposals and monitor current grantees. Coordinate the grantmaking process, including reviewing proposals, preparing and tracking correspondence, proposals, grant documents, contracts and payments.
- Communicate with and provide technical and strategic assistance to grant seekers, as needed. Inform applicants, grantees and other external audiences of grantmaking processes and procedures. Provide detailed information on proposal and grantrequirements. Field and conduct follow-up on inquiries related to the administration of funded programs.
- Actively participate as a member of the program team, attend team meetings and collaborate with team members on pending grant docket, special projects and various other team-related functions.
- Help maintain grant database to ensure necessary correspondence, reports and payment documents and essential documents are stored.
- Assist with creating grantmaking reports from the grants database.
- Provide guidance to grantees on grant modification processes and procedures and collaborate with program staff and grantees to ensure grant modification requests are properly presented, accurate and acceptable.
- Assist with the logistics and implementation of special events, convenings and other meetings as requested.
- Perform program-related research and special projects as assigned.
- BA/BS degree is preferred, though three years of experience in philanthropy, nonprofit or related field can offset this.
- Excellent writing and verbal skills with the ability to communicate in a manner that will advance the foundation’s values, mission and goals.
- Strong organizational skills, multitasking abilities, and capabilities to prioritize and work under pressure.
- An agile and creative intellect who enjoys people and interaction of ideas leading to action.
- A high energy level, confident, team and customer-service oriented.
- Excellent time management and the ability to work independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, Outlook and Word) and the internet.
Must be a superior communicator, both oral and written, and possess excellent interpersonal, collaborative, communications, research, analytical and computer/database skills. Sensitivity to the diverse nature of Alaska is necessary and strong knowledge of one or more of its critical social issues a plus. Flexibility and high attention to detail required.
