PACU Registered Nurse FLOAT - Ft. Carson
Location:
FORT CARSON, CO 80913 US (Primary)
Job Type: Full-time
Responsibilities- Collect, interpret, record, and communicate pertinent patient data relevant to the patient’s care before, during, and after surgery.
- Actively observes patients and takes appropriate action as indicated by problems.
- Adhere to established protocols in preparing patients for examination, specialized tests, and surgery.
- Formulate nursing diagnosis based on health status data by interpreting assessment data and identifying patient problems.
- Develop a plan of care with prioritized nursing actions to achieve patient goals.
- Ensure procedures, treatments, and medications are administered in accordance with physician orders, nursing judgment, and guidelines.
- Administer medications orally, intramuscularly, subcutaneously, intravenously, topically, including narcotics and IV therapies, and monitor effects.
- Maintain a safe, clean work environment and observe CDC standard precautions in direct patient care.
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of information.
- Generate and maintain medical records in accordance with Air Force Instructions on Medical Record Administration; records remain property of the Government.
- Facilitate collaboration with health care management and outside agencies; participate in utilization management to optimize cost, quality, and access to care; provide evidence-based clinical practice and comprehensive professional nursing care.
- Ensure equipment and supplies are available based on patient needs.
- Monitor and control the patient care environment (temperature, sensory environment, cleanliness).
- Document procedures, medication results, adverse effects, and unusual occurrences in the patient’s medical record.
- Prepare accurate reports and statistics as required.
- Interact with patients, families, and staff with tact and diplomacy.
- Conduct patient/family interviews and complete preoperative documents, progress notes, and teaching.
- Process prescriptions to pharmacy and enter orders in the Composite Health Care System (CHCS).
- Assist with orientation and training of staff in ASU/PACU and Preop Clinic.
- Maintain and store equipment properly; perform preventive maintenance and routine cleaning as directed.
- Maintain a safe work environment and employ safe work practices.
- Utilize information management systems in daily practice for patient care and administrative duties.
- Coordinate and communicate with facility staff to facilitate patient care.
- Review patient charts for completeness and report abnormalities promptly.
- Set patient goals aligned with current and potential physical capabilities and behaviors; develop outcome statements and measurement criteria.
- Participate in planning care with other professionals and nonprofessional staff.
- Take action to prevent deterioration and alleviate patient discomfort.
- Orient and serve as a preceptor for newly assigned nurses to the areas.
- Set up, operate, and monitor therapeutic and emergency equipment (cardiac monitors, EKG units, vital sign monitors, oxygen saturation monitors).
- Prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgery.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications- Associate Degree in Nursing. RN must be a graduate from a college/university accredited by ACEN or CCNE.
- Current, active, unrestricted RN license in Colorado or able to practice using a nurse compact or eNLC license.
- National or state nursing license valid and current with no limitations; license must be unencumbered and active during contract.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Red Cross, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS); certifications must be maintained during contract at no Government expense.
- Minimum of two years of PACU/ICU/ER nursing experience within the last three years.
- Must complete and pass a medication calculation test with a score of 80 or higher.
- Competency-based orientation program completed based on medical-surgical requirements.
- Familiarity with medical-surgical equipment and current standards of care.
