ResponsibilitiesThe Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) is responsible for providing comprehensive medical‑forensic examinations to adult and adolescent patients who report a history of interpersonal violence, including victims and suspects. The FNE delivers quality nursing care customized to each patient’s needs, applying the nursing process, approved scope and standards, and the Alaska Nurse Practice Act. The FNE must assess and analyze patient information and history with understanding of cognitive, physical, cultural, emotional/psychosocial, spiritual, and developmental factors.
The role functions in crisis environments involving complex trauma and substance use, collaborates with law enforcement and advocacy agencies, and maintains effective teamwork to keep the patient’s needs centered.
- Full‑time – Night shift (3) 12‑hour shifts per week
- Part‑time – Night shift (2) 12‑hour shifts per week
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program
- Alaska Registered Nurse license upon hire
- National Provider BLS – American Heart Association certification upon hire
- One year of nursing experience
- Current certification of completion of a 40‑hour Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program upon hire
- Completion of a 16‑hour SANE Clinical Skills Lab (CSL) training upon hire
