American Traveler is hiring a Labor and Delivery RN to work as Charge Nurse at a Magnet, Level II Trauma hospital, requiring an active AK RN license and charge experience.
Details- High-risk Labor and Delivery unit with 10 OB Triage rooms, 10 LDR rooms, 3 OR suites, and 4 PACU rooms
- Average of 7 deliveries daily, with up to 14 patients including inductions and high-risk antepartum cases
- OB Triage averages 4-5 third-trimester testing patients plus additional daily triage patients
- Facility performs 100-200 births per month
- Night shift schedule (3x12 or 4x12 hours, 19:00-7:30)
- Required to work every other weekend
- May float to similar units within the facility or nearby affiliate hospitals as needed
- No on-call requirements
- No block scheduling accommodations
- Active AK RN license required in hand for consideration
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience required
- Charge Nurse experience required; candidates should regularly expect to work in the Charge Nurse role
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, AWHONN Advanced, and NRP
- Epic charting experience required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, venous blood draws, IV starts and maintenance, and use of infusion pumps/drips
- Experience with labor and delivery management including assisting with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, circulating and scrubbing for C-sections, and sterile vaginal exams
- Experience with fetal monitoring including external and internal fetal monitoring and IUPC placement/calibration
- Experience administering medications such as antihypertensives, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate, pitocin, and terbutaline
- Neonatal care experience including APGAR scoring, newborn resuscitation, and use of radiant warmers
- Postpartum care experience including management of hemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension, and couplet care
- 2 supervisory references required, covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty
- Copies of required certifications must be provided for consideration
- Full SSN and DOB required for consideration
- Hepatitis B vaccination required; titers or declinations not accepted
- Work in a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma acute care hospital recognized as a USNWR Best Hospital in Alaska
- 407 staffed beds facility
- Scrubs provided by facility
- Must be willing to work 2 of the 3 major holidays:
Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's - First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
- Former Providence permanent staff must be separated for a minimum of 3 months before returning as a traveler
- Travelers are limited to a maximum of 1 calendar year in this assignment, followed by a required 6-month break before returning to the same facility
- Any approved time off must be submitted at the time of consideration
