Maintenance Tech - Diesel Mechanic Alaska Village Electric Cooperative

Join our team at Alaska Village Electric Cooperative (AVEC) as a full‑time onsite Maintenance Tech – Diesel Mechanic. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to work hands‑on with a variety of equipment and to ensure reliable delivery of electricity to remote Alaskan communities.

Hourly pay ranges from $29.48–$38.44 with benefits that include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), defined benefit retirement pension, life insurance, long‑term and short‑term disability, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, competitive salary, and paid time off.

About Us

AVEC is a cooperative that serves 59 communities across Alaska, operating 46 small, isolated grids that rely on diesel, wind, and solar generation to power 11,513 meters and maintain 515 miles of distribution line.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on diesel‑powered equipment.
  • Diagnose issues and complete repairs efficiently while maintaining accurate maintenance records.
  • Collaborate with team members to prioritize tasks, adhere to safety protocols, and meet operational requirements.
  • Work 10‑hour days, six days a week, in remote Alaskan villages.
Qualifications
  • Technical proficiency in construction, electrical systems, and equipment maintenance.
  • Experience with diesel generation systems or related technical fields.
  • Ability to adapt to changing tasks and environments in remote locations.
  • Self‑motivation and a responsible work ethic for field operations.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to safety protocols.
  • Proficiency with tools and software related to equipment maintenance and repair.
