What You Will Be Doing

This position works with a team of Analysts/Programmers responsible for maintaining and developing custom software applications, providing database management, and integrating third-party software that are critical to the successful management of Alaska’s oil, gas, and geothermal resources. This is a highly technical position that will work with technical and non-technical DOG/DNR/SOA staff.

The Division of Oil & Gas’s role in that mission is to fairly and responsibly manage the state’s lands for oil, gas, and geothermal exploration for the greatest benefit of all Alaskans. This position is part of an IT team whose goal is to provide customer-focused technology resources, applications, and solutions that align with department and state strategic initiatives.

The Working Environment You Can Expect

This position works within the Atwood building, which houses multiple state agencies in downtown Anchorage at 550 W. 7th Ave. Individual work shifts are flexible within the Division's normal business hours. A typical workday will involve working both independently and alongside other development team members. Work tasks are self‑assigned via a ticketing system or assigned by a supervisor, with priorities being set by Division management.

We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following position‑specific competencies.

  • Software Development:
    Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools for designing, developing, and testing software in a given environment.
  • Analysis and Assessment:
    Uses information technology in accessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information.
  • Database Management Systems:
    Knowledge of the uses of database management systems and software to control the organization, storage, retrieval, security, and integrity of data.
  • Software Testing and Evaluation:
    Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools for analyzing and developing software test and evaluation procedures.
  • Technical Documentation:
    Knowledge of procedures for developing technical and operational support documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

Analyst/Programmer 3 – Starting Salary $2646.00

Two years of computer programming experience in a recognized computer language. One year of this experience must have been in a business application, scientific application, microcomputer or computer information management support specialty.

Substitution:

A bachelor's degree with a major in Computer Science (CS) or Computer Information Systems (CIS), or a related degree with (18) semester/(24) quarter hours of CS or CIS may substitute for one year of the required experience. An associate’s degree in CS or CIS may substitute for nine months of the required experience.
