Job SummaryThe Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Emergency Department (ED) provides patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), advanced practice provider, or physician. The LPN supports the emergency team by observing patients, gathering clinical information, administering medications and IV therapy as permitted by licensure, and performing delegated tasks in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. This role requires excellent clinical judgment, professionalism, and teamwork.
EssentialFunctions
- Deliver safe, effective nursing care under RN supervision in the ED and other units as needed
- Accurately assess and document patient conditions, vitals, and symptoms
- Administer medications and IV therapy within LPN scope of practice
- Complete delegated tasks and report findings to RN and providers
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and documentation standards
- Support staffing efforts and participate in departmental operations
- Uphold professionalism, maturity, and integrity in all interactions
- Function as a mentor and role model during onboarding of new staff
- Engage in ongoing professional development, education, and competency
- Proficiency in clinical nursing tasks for emergency settings
- Clear communication and emotional intelligence
- High integrity and accountability
- Physical ability to meet emergency care demands (e.g., lifting, mobility)
- Ability to manage time effectively and work under pressure
- Committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment
- Adherence to all patient safety and confidentiality standards
- Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing Program (required)
- Current LPN license (or equivalent state licensure) – required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification – required within the time frame specified in facility policy
- ED experience, EMS or military medical background – preferred
