RN Coordinator (Anderson) (Project Management)

Base Pay: $35.28 - $52.92 / hour

Job Summary

The primary function of the RN Coordinator is to utilize the nursing process to provide clinician support in areas where functions of nursing and medicine overlap. S/he accurately administers medications, including immunizations, by all routes including IV. S/he provides patient education and oversees the provision of education by LVNs and MAs on the clinical team. S/he performs independent triage and communicates with the clinician regarding actions taken.

RNs are expected to demonstrate critical thinking skills, leadership and appropriate role modeling.

Job Duties and Responsibilities RN-Specific Tasks and Duties
  • Utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation) in patient care and daily activities; documents all actions, as appropriate, in EHR.
  • Coordinates nursing activities and helps to maintain efficient patient flow, care and processes.
  • Functions under standardized procedures or patient care protocols to provide independent care.
  • Functions as clinic charge nurse when assigned.
  • Participates in the quality improvement process as requested or assigned.
  • Initiates venipuncture with clinician's order for the purpose of IV fluid administration or for phlebotomy.
  • Administers IV medications via direct push or piggy-back with clinician's order.
  • Performs and interprets skin tests without clinician's order under standardized procedures.
  • Performs urinary bladder catheterization with clinician's order.
  • Provides direct patient education and supervises the provision of patient education by LVNs or MAs.
  • Counts and signs for controlled substances according to clinic policy.
  • Performs independent telephone or face‑to‑face triage using written triage protocols.
  • Accepts and correctly transcribes verbal or telephone orders from clinicians.
  • Sends/performs prescriptions per the clinician order.
  • Performs prescription refills per SCHC protocol/standardized procedure.
  • Reports child, elder or general abuse according to California law.
Assisting the Clinician and Daily Activities
  • Intermittently throughout the day checks clinician inboxes/PAQs and addresses issues appropriately.
  • First line for resolving patient issues/complaints.
  • Dispenses samples and patient assistance medications and provides patient education on these.
  • Patient visits—ISA, injections, wound care.
  • Patient advice—telephone and face‑to‑face.
  • Obtains previous records, collecting patient history, preparing new patients, etc.
  • Resource for VC, patients, MA, LVN, etc.
  • Prepares the patient and assists the clinician with exams and procedures when needed.
  • Performs age‑appropriate screening as needed or as directed by clinician.
  • Performs accurate nursing assessment of patients admitted for urgent care and initiates emergency measures as appropriate.
  • Ensures end‑of‑shift tasks are completed, for example, refrigerator temps and quality control testing.
  • Assures efficient patient flow by ongoing assessment of clinician schedule and working with other staff to minimize patient waiting time.
  • Follows SCHC standards for Standard Precautions when working with potentially infectious materials (blood or body fluids).
  • Schedules patients appropriately when needed.
  • Alerts Clinical Director or designated person to needed supplies/equipment.
  • Reports any safety hazards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of nursing process, scope of practice and standards of care.
  • Ability to pass a written medication quiz.
  • Basic computer proficiency in Windows environment.
  • Typing 35 WPM or greater.
Education & Experience
  • Completion of an accredited RN program.
  • Current California RN license upon hire and maintain current.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification upon hire and maintain current.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of one year's experience in acute care nursing.
  • Previous experience working in an outpatient clinic or doctor's office.
  • Typing 45 WPM or greater.
