Forestry - Botanist Aide at Sierra Pacific Industries
Wages: $22–$26 per hour
Employment Period: MID-MARCH – OCTOBER 2026 (flexible start & end dates)
Responsibilities- Conduct botanical surveys throughout Sierra Pacific Industries’ forests in northern and central California.
- Navigate forest roads and terrain using digital and hard‑copy maps.
- Record habitat characteristics for project areas and rare plant locations.
- Identify California flora to family, genus, and species.
- Survey proposed timber harvest areas and other special projects for rare plant species, collecting supporting documentation and vouchers.
- Work full days in all weather conditions and remote field locations, including hiking steep, uneven terrain.
- Utilize GPS and tablet-based data recording as needed.
- College coursework in botany, biology, forestry, or a related natural resource field; coursework must include plant taxonomy or plant identification.
- One season of botanical field work desirable, but not required.
- Ability to identify plant species in the North Coast, Klamath, Cascade, Modoc, and Sierra Nevada regions.
- Map and photo interpretation skills.
- Proficiency with GPS and data recorder/tablet preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
