Locations: Anderson, Fishers, Muncie, IN (regular travel required to Anderson & Fishers).

Description

The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for making patients feel comfortable, directing them while in clinic, performing initial assessment and intake of information including past surgical, medical, family and social history, taking and recording vital signs, interviewing patients to fully understand the reason for the visit, providing care for clinic patients, assisting physicians with minor surgeries and procedures, and maintaining accurate patient records.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for examination and treatment by observing, recording, and assessing patient’s condition; obtain vital signs and take past medical/social/family history, entering information into the electronic health record.
  • Update and maintain patient records, post test results, formulate and update patient care plans, ensuring smooth and timely flow of patients through the clinic.
  • Assist physicians in preparing for minor surgeries, procedures, and physicals; obtain specimens, administer injections or tests, arrange for additional testing as needed, and apply or remove casts, splints, and dressings.
  • Explain and demonstrate home physical therapy exercises or rehabilitation techniques to patients.
  • Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments and maintain supplies and equipment, including sterilization and ordering as needed.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in all situations.
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations and certifications as required.
  • Attend required organizational meetings and committees as requested.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Certification Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited medical assisting program (Associate’s degree).
  • One to two years of professional experience in a clinical setting preferred.
  • In good standing certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA or CCMA).
  • Current BLS certification.
Working Conditions /

Physical Requirements

Work requires standing for long periods, walking, lifting or carrying items up to 100 pounds, full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination. Exposure to communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, medicinal preparations. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Interaction with staff, physicians, and the public, sometimes dealing with upset patients.
