Summary: The RN is responsible for providing direct nursing care to residents, and for supervising the day‑to‑day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. This supervision must comply with federal, state, and local standards and regulations, and as directed by the Director of Nursing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Direct the day‑to‑day functions of nursing assistants, meet with staff to plan shift services, program and activities, produce written and oral reports, admit, transfer and discharge residents, and lead nursing personnel.
- Complete & file required record‑keeping forms upon admission, transfer, or discharge; transcribe phone orders from physicians and record them; chart nursing notes, accident/incident reports; perform routine charting duties per policies.
- Prepare and administer medications ordered by physicians.
- Build rapport with inter‑departmental and other departments to ensure adequate nursing services; maintain a warm and calm environment; hand over reports on shift changes; make rounds with physicians as needed.
- Administer professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, suction, dressing changes, colostomy and drainage bags, blood draws, massage, range‑of‑motion exercises, etc.
- Monitor personnel to ensure compliance with safety regulations regarding equipment and supplies.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident care information; report suspected unauthorized disclosures; ensure privacy during nursing services.
- Provide IV and IV site care as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Registered Nurse with a current unencumbered state license.
- Proficient reading, writing, speaking, and understanding of English.
- Ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
- Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, laws and regulations applicable to nursing care facilities.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Experience in long‑term care preferred.
- Move intermittently during the workday.
- Cope with mental and emotional stress.
- Meet general health requirements set by facility policies, including medical and physical examination.
- Lift or move minimum 25 lbs to at least 5 ft. Height and carry that weight minimum 50 ft distance.
- Assist in evacuation of residents during emergencies if required.
