The Battery Quality Engineer II supports a cross-functional team for the development, launch, production, and continuous improvement of lithium-ion battery packs. The role is responsible for defining, implementing, monitoring, and ensuring quality deliverables are achieved in both the product development process and mature lifecycle management through introduction of principles of quality assurance.
Responsibilities- Represents the lead for Quality on new product development projects and is accountable to deliverables owned by Quality function during product development process.
- Champion Continuous Improvement of processes and products.
- Analyze return/warranty data on products to identify trends and recommend improvements to existing products.
- Regularly reviews data from various sources regarding products to identify issues, trends, and improvement opportunities such as product audits, use-testing, customer reviews, consumer reports, etc.
- Supports consumer product reviews with cross-functional team.
- Responsible as subject matter expert for problem solving processes.
- Documents issues, root causes, and corrective actions for identified issues.
- Defines quality control criteria and ensures compliance to the quality control plan.
- Reviews and supports release of engineering drawings for parts and components.
- Evaluates/inspects parts and components to ensure conformity to drawings/specifications.
- Evaluates testing procedures and results for new product qualification.
- Initiates testing on products as required by development processes.
- Supports supplier qualification and development for products.
- Tracks and approves PPAP’s as necessary for products.
- Identifies cost improvement opportunities and initiates necessary actions to implement.
- Creates problem summaries and reports for management.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- BS in Engineering or related field (EE preferred, ME or related acceptable).
- Preferred: 3+ years previous experience in product development and/or product-based continuous improvement.
- Preferred: 2+ years previous experience with APQP/PPAP.
- Preferred: working knowledge of QMS (ex: ISO 9001).
- Strong understanding of engineering and product design concepts.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel up to 25% (including internationally).
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.
